Opportunities Bulletin #148 September

LAFF will screen long and short films produced in African countries, made by African filmmakers, who are concerned by African subjects through 2015 productions.

The festival consists of 4 competitions: Long Narratives, Long Documentaries, Short Films (Narratives and Documentaries) and The International Competition of Freedom Films as well as other special sections.

Film submissions to The festival are open from until mid December 2015.
 
The deadline for delivering prints of the selected films to the festival’s headquarter is by the end of January 2016.

Each year, The festival selects 120-125 Feature Films and 60-80 Short Films to play in one of 13 Festival programs. However, you may not submit your film directly to any one specific program. Instead, you must select from one of six submission categories, listed below:

Berlinale Shorts

Berlinale Shorts is hosting up to 30 short films. They compete for the Golden and the Silver Bear, The Audi Short Film Award (endowed with € 20,000) as well as for the Berlin Short Film Nominee for the European Film Awards. The winner of the Golden Bear qualifies for being eligible for next year’s short film Oscar ®.

Eligibility:

• Duration no longer than 30 minutes.
• Production completed no earlier than 2015.
• The film may have participated in national competitions or side selection in festivals in the country of its origin, but not outside the country of origin.
• Films may not have been broadcast nor posted online nor as VOD.
• World premieres are preferred.

Generation

“Generation” is hosting two competitions with short films dedicated to a young audience: Kplus screens programmes for children of various age groups; short films for an audience from 14 years on are presented in the 14plus competition. A Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film is awarded in each competition. Participants in both competitions also run for the awards of the Generation Kplus or 14 plus International Juries, endowed each with € 2,500.

Eligibility:

• Duration no longer than 20 minutes.
• Production completed no earlier than 2015.
• World and international premieres are preferred. European premieres are accepted.

The deadline for submitting films is on 17th of November, 2015.

The Festival welcomes submissions of feature-length and short films, in both the narrative and documentary categories.

Tribeca also welcomes submissions for their interactive storytelling program. This program, which includes an award, celebrates new trends in digital media and recognizes creators who employ an innovative, interactive, web-based or multi-platform approach to story creation. Through open submissions, selections will be presented to the public at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.

25th of November, 2015 at 6 p.m. EST

Official entry deadline for short length and feature length film entries as well as storyscapes project entries. This is the final deadline for storyscapes projects and short films.

23rd of December, 2015 at 6 p.m. EST

Late entry deadline for feature world premieres completed after the official deadline only.

There are more than 100 films festivals in Japan every year. These film festivals welcome films from around the world to be part of their celebration. However, due to language and cultural barriers, only few films make it to the screens of these film festivals in Japan.

WASABI Creation believes that good stories should be shared regardless of language or culture. It aims to bridge the gap between Japan and the rest of the world by assisting filmmakers to showcase their work in front of the audience of Japan.

The deadline for receiving applications is on 16th of September 2015.

If your creativity is cutting edge or you have a message to tell, your film could be part of this festival that’s fusing artistry, education and innovation to enhance worldview and collective social dialogue through the power and storytelling of film.

All films entered will automatically be considered for nomination in any award categories that the film might qualify for during the selection process. BBFF awards include but are not limited to: Best Film, Documentary, Short Film, Drama, Cinematography, Surf Film, Animation, Experimental Film, Environmental Film, Music Video, Best Young Australian Filmmaker (open to Australian Director’s under 25) and an award for the Best Local Film.

BBFF is open to films of all lengths and all genres and warmly welcomes all accepted filmmakers to attend. Films in competition must have been completed after January 1st, 2013.

Some of BBFF2016’s standout opportunities include the chance for young Australian directors under 25, to be BBFF’s Young Australian Filmmaker of the Year and for emerging artists to be featured alongside big names nominated for BBFF’s coveted Best Music Video award.
