1.   Job opportunity at the Royal Film Commission- Jordan: Project Manager

Position’s Description: 

Under the direct supervision of the Community and Training Manager the Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing and accomplishing the objectives and goals of the projects/programmes of the department.

Responsibilities:

• Manage staff by recruiting, selecting, and orienting them.
• Ensure that staff are meeting their job’s objectives by coaching, counseling, and disciplining them, through planning, monitoring, enforcing system’ policies, procedures, and productivity standards, and appraising job’s results.
• Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

• Responsible for designing action plans.
• Ensure networking with other partners and beneficiaries.
• Establish strategic goals by gathering related business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
• Analyze and resolve quality and service problems; identifying trends; recommending system improvements.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Management or related field.
• At least four years-experience in community project management.
• Very good communication skills, oral and written, in both English and Arabic.
• Experience in coaching, supervising, developing budgets, and delivering and drafting reports.
• Excellent team work.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Possess a driving license

2.   The Royal Film Commission- Jordan: Med Film Factory’s Crowd- Funding

Med Film Factory is a specialized training program aimed at Arab producers and directors from the MENA (Middle East / North Africa) region. It was created in 2010 when a concept initiated by the Royal Film Commission– Jordan in partnership with Sud Ecriture – Tunisia and the Huston School of Film & Digital Media – Ireland materialized into a fully-developed training program with the financial support of the Euromed Audiovisual program of the European Union, which funded the program between 2011 and 2014.

Med Film Factory is now suspended due to lack of funds and the non-renewal of the Euromed Audiovisual program that funded these past few years and we need your support to keep it going.

Med Film Factory is the only Arab training program that is specifically designed to develop the skills of Arab producers and directors. It seeks to enhance the participants’ creative and professional skills as well as support them in the realization of their projects. It also anticipates to contribute to the creation of collective connections within the Arab regional film industry, in particular to encourage the regional support of independent creative voices and films through all the stages of filmmaking that will help sustain the overall Mediterranean film industry.

Three cycles into the project, Med Film Factory has matured into a beautifully crafted training program which has benefitted around 50 Arab producers and directors since its launch back in 2011. In addition, participants from all three cycles have individually developed success stories in the film industry thanks to their experience in Med Film Factory.

In order to resume this important program, the RFC is resorting to crowd funding and seeking your generous support.

3.   Call for submissions: 18th International Ismailia Film Festival for Documentaries & Shorts

The Ismailia International Film Festival team has started to receive films in order to be shown by the selection committee to participate in the international competition for the festival’s 18th edition this year.

The festival will be held from June 1 till June 5, 2015.

The deadline for film submissions is on April 1^st, 2015.

4.   Call for proposals: Stuttgart Animation Forum 2015 - Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for International Cooperation

The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film is organizing an Arab Animation Forum to connect young directors, animators and producers from Germany and the Arab World1.

The aim of the Arab Animation Forum is to identify interesting projects and to connect potential co-production partners concerning a possible application for the Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for International Cooperation. The forum is directed to animation filmmakers looking for a producer or co-producer as well as to producers interested in producing or coproducing an animated film project. Several meetings, workshops, consulting, pitching and matching sessions will be held.

The Arab Animation Forum takes place May 7th through 10th as a part of the 22nd Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS). With over 2,500 international professionals and about 85,000 spectators the ITFS together with the FMX and the Animation Production Day form one of the world’s largest animation events and a unique platform for animation business and culture.

The selected directors, animators, and producers will be invited for four nights to join the Arab Animation Forum in Stuttgart.

The winner of the Arab Animation Forum is automatically nominated for the Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for International Cooperation.

Who can participate?

Young producers, animators, and directors the Arab World1 are eligible for participation by submitting a film project. German producers are not to submit own projects, but will get in touch with selected projects during the Arab Animation Forum.

The application should be submitted by a producer, animator or director. About 9 animated short film projects will be selected from the Arab World.

5.   Call for submissions: ‘The Reel Dubai’ Competition in support of #MyDubai Launch

Filmmakers from across the UAE can celebrate the diversity and vitality of Dubai by entering ‘The Reel Dubai’ competition which is accepting submissions until the 28^th  February 2015. A joint initiative between Samsung, the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) and the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the competition sets out to spotlight the country’s talented filmmakers and draw attention to the array of experiences that the Emirate has to offer. 

In line with #MyDubai, ‘The Reel Dubai’ aims to build on the millions of stories that are being told in pictures.

Participants must be residents of the UAE, and at least 12 years old to enter.       

The deadline for submissions is on February 28^th, 2015.

6.   Call for entries: Science Film Festival 2015

The Science Film Festival 2015 is now open for submissions!

In 2015, the Science Film Festival invites audiences to discover the different roles LIGHT and its applications play in our everyday lives and what it reveals about the nature of the universe.

Films and programmes on all subjects and for all ages are welcome for consideration.

In 2015, the Science Film Festival takes place internationally between October 1st  and December 20th, 2015.

The deadline for entries is on March 13^th, 2015.

7.   Call for entries: 11th Edition of DOCVILLE  2015

On Friday, May 1st, 2015, the 11th edition of the International Documentary Film Festival DOCVILLE, the largest documentary film festival in Belgium, kicks off.

For 9 days, the audience can enjoy a large selection of brand new documentary films and a series of events, debates, Q&A's and conferences.

Since many years, DOCVILLE organizes a national and international competition. Filmmakers who want to submit a film can do so now.

Specific rules & regulation for the Belgian Competition

• All general rules & regulations apply
• All films (short and long) are accepted for the Belgian competition
• Films should be finished after the previous deadline of DOCVILLE (March 1st, 2014)
• Films are not required to have premiere status at the time of the festival, although this is preferred

8.   Call for submissions: The 19^th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival  

The Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) is now accepting submissions for its 19th Edition that will take place July 16-26 2015.

BiFan encourages the understanding of other nations through the art of fantastic films and facilitates the exchange of ideas between film industry professionals from all over the world and those of Korea. Not only does it promote the production of fantastic films and its international distribution, but also stimulates the distribution of international fantastic films.

The Festival comprises of an international competition Bucheon Choice for feature and short films, and non-competitive sections such as World Fantastic Cinema, Vision Express, The Masters, Forbidden Zone, Ani Fanta, Fantastic Short Films. The Official Selection includes around 220 films including feature and short films.

Rules and regulations:

• Films that have been produced during and after 2014.
• All submitted films must satisfy Korean premiere condition of screening
• 60 minutes or more running length is considered a feature film. 59 minutes or less running length is considered a short film Entrants must clear all copyrighted materials included in their films before publicly screening it.

• When the original language of the film is not English, the film must include on-screen subtitles in English.

The deadline for Short films is on March 20th, 2015.

The deadline for Feature films is on May 8th, 2015.

9.   Call for entries: Legacy Film Festival on Aging 2015

The Legacy Film Festival on Aging is seeking films that provide a unique opportunity to view the variety and vitality of later life. The Legacy Film Festival on Aging showcases films from around the world that celebrate older adulthood and deal with the challenges and triumphs of aging. It is held every year in San Francisco.

Rules and regulations:

• Film must portray people 55 years of age and older.
• Both foreign and American short and feature-length narrative, documentary, experimental and animation films are welcome.
• Films must be in English, or have English subtitles that are clearly differentiated from the background.
• Films must be submitted online, or in DVD hard copy format for pre-screenings.
• If chosen, films must be available for screening September 2015.
• Label entries with title, name of artist, date of completion, and length.
• Films should dispel stereotypes about aging and older adults, and educate viewers about aging in an entertaining and compelling manner.
• Intergenerational stories with one key subject 55 + years are welcomed. (Also interested in a film on boomers and their millennial children).

The early deadline for entries is on February 28^th, 2015.

The late deadline for entries is on April 15^th, 2015.

10.Call for submissions: The 36^th Edition of Durban International Film Festival

The Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is calling for entries. The 36th edition of the festival will be held from July 16^th- 26^th, 2015.

Specific streams of programming for 2015 will include a focus on climate change, as well as films that explore our relationship to the earth’s changing ecology. Only films completed in 2014 and 2015 will be considered, and there is no fee for entry.

Presenting over 250 screenings of cutting-edge cinema from around the world, with a special focus on films from South Africa and Africa, the festival exhibits films in a diversity of venues around the city. DIFF is the premiere platform for the launch of African films and a key gateway to the African film industry. The festival also includes a local and international awards component.

The deadline for all entries (short films, documentaries and feature fiction films), including delivery of screeners, is March 20^th, 2015.

11.Call for submissions: Brooklyn Short Film Festival 2015

The submission for the 2015 Brooklyn Short Film Festival is now open. The festival is now scheduled to take place between June 10th and 13th at the luxurious Galapagos Art Space in DUMBO – NYC.

Brooklyn Short Film Festival brings together the world’s best short films in an engaging atmosphere for the purpose of developing connections and building new relationships in the film industry.

The Brooklyn Short Film Festival offers local and international companies and organizations an opportunity to network with the festival’s film directors, industry and press.  It is especially interested in nightlife partners willing to host post-screening events, hospitality partners interested in hosting our VIP filmmakers and industry and media partnerships to magnify the effects of the festival.
