1. RFC: Film Library Supervisor

Job Summary: Managing the Film Library, from collection maintenance to updating database. Promoting the Library and interest in films, through specific activities. Co-managing the Instagram of the Library. Performing audiovisual documentation and editing. Daily media monitoring. Contributing to the screening program of the RFC.

2. Call for submissions: Berlin International Film Festival 2022

The Berlin International Film Festival (hereafter referred to as the “Berlinale”) is organised by the Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH (the Federal Organisation for Cultural Events in Berlin). The Berlinale is a major public cultural event. Each year, it typically sells over 330,000 tickets and comprises around 350 films, making it a unique event for interaction with a film-loving public. With the participation of around 20,000 professional visitors from over 100 countries, including more than 3,800 journalists, it is one of the international film industry’s most important events.

The Official Programme of the Berlinale comprises the Competition, Encounters, Berlinale Shorts, Panorama and Berlinale Special, including Berlinale Series. It is complemented by the Generation and Perspektive Deutsches Kino (Perspective on German Cinema) sections, as well as Forum and Forum Expanded which are organised independently by the Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art. The Retrospective, Hommage and Berlinale Classics programmes complete the Berlinale.

Films can be submitted to the following sections and programmes: Competition, Encounters, Berlinale Shorts, Panorama, Forum, Generation, Perspektive Deutsches Kino, Berlinale Series and Berlinale Classics. Before submitting a film, please read the General Guidelines for Film Submission and Participation as well as the respective regulations for the sections and programmes.

General Regulations:
• Only films that have been registered can be considered for selection.
• Film registrations are accepted exclusively online at www.berlinale.de.
• Only films completed within the 12 months prior to the start of the festival may be registered. Except for German films, a theatrical release as well as a festival participation in the country of origin will be accepted. The same applies to a participation at an online festival as long as the streamings are only accessible in the country of origin (by means of “geoblocking” technology).
• World premieres are preferred. Kindly note the respective premiere status minimum requirements of each section.
• While feature length films need a minimum running time of 60 min, Berlinale Shorts accepts films up to 30 min, short films for Generation will be accepted up to 20 min. Films for Perspektive Deutsches Kino (German productions only) need a minimum length of 30 min, features start with 60 min.
• Documentary forms can be submitted to all sections.
• The Artistic Director of the festival reserves the right to rule on any cases not provided for in these guidelines individually.
• Every submitter will receive a written notification about the result of the selection screening.

3. Call for submissions: 2022 Tribeca Festival

A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca Film Festival NYC, LLC (the “Festival”) supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences, and introduces new technology and ideas through panels, premieres, exhibitions, and live performance.

Feature and Short Films:
Tribeca showcases short and feature films from emerging talent and established filmmakers with distinct voices and bold new ideas. Films invited to participate in the 2022 Tribeca Festival (TF22) will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, in their sole discretion. Short films will also be considered for our online section which will premiere on our Tribeca At Home platform.
Eligible projects include feature films (runtime ≥ 40 minutes). Short films (runtime < 40 minutes); including documentaries, narratives, animation, experimental films, and music videos.

Tribeca Now:
Tribeca Now is a platform that discovers, highlights, and celebrates independent episodic work, including short and long form pilots/series, of both narrative and documentary genres. Eligible projects include episodic projects created for broadcast television and/or streaming, and web series. Submitted projects must show the potential for serial growth; standalone short films will not be considered.
Additional to consideration as an Official Selection of TF22, filmmakers submitting to Tribeca Now will also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, a first-of-its-kind, private industry market held during TF22 that brings together emerging feature film, episodic, immersive, podcast, and games storytellers to pitch new projects to and network with a wide range of industry, including distributors, producers, networks, funders, and more. Interested participants must have prepared pitch materials (i.e. scripts, look books, etc.) in advance of the event for Market staff to review. All filmmakers chosen as Official Selections of the Tribeca Now section will receive an automatic invitation to the Tribeca Creators Market.

Deadline for submission: November 3, 2021 for feature-length films / December 1, 2021 for short films.

4. Call for submissions: The Arab Film Festival Zurich

The Arab Film Festival Zurich is organized every two years by the association IAFFZ and the Filmpodium Zurich. The next festival will take place from 17.11.2022 until 27.11.2022.
The focus is on films by Arab filmmakers that could not find their way to “commercial” theaters. The program includes short and full-length feature, documentary, animation and experimental films exploring social, cultural and political issues. Discussions with the invited filmmakers also offer the audience the opportunity to discuss films and topics further.

Entry conditions:
• All works selected for the Festival must be screened in their original language with English, German and/or French subtitles.
• Production of selected films must have been completed within 30 months preceding their Festival screening.
• In order to qualify for selection, films must not have been previously screened in the German speaking part of Switzerland (Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Winterthur etc.).
• Works that are solely promotional, educational or scientific in character are not eligible for selection in the Festival.
• A selection committee (with an advisory brief) made up of film experts will assist the Artistic Directorship in the scouting and selection of works for the Festival.

5. Call for applications: Film Independent Documentary Lab 2022

Through a series of meetings and workshops, the Documentary Lab provides creative feedback and story notes to participating filmmakers, while helping them strategize for the completion, distribution and marketing of their films. The program advances the careers of its Fellows by introducing them to film professionals who can advise on both the craft and business of documentary filmmaking.

Over the course of two weeks in May, Fellows attend multiple workshops and sessions with guest speakers, established documentary directors, institutional funders, legal professionals, festival programmers and distributors. Fellows are paired with an experienced Creative Advisor who can provide one-on-one support and insight as they ready their projects for release. The Lab culminates in a final pitch event that offers further opportunity for individualized feedback and discussion with industry executives.

Who Can Apply?

The Film Independent Documentary Lab accepts applications for nonfiction films or series that will be in late post-production in the spring of 2022. Applicants must submit a work sample which should include a minimum of a polished trailer and scene selects, all the way up to a rough cut. Filmmakers that have yet to complete the majority of principal photography and those that do not yet have any footage assembled are not eligible to apply.

Film Independent is looking for talented filmmakers with documentary projects that are compelling, original and demonstrate a unique vision. Both experienced and first-time directors are welcome to apply. Creative partners on the documentary (e.g. co-director, producer, editor) can apply with the filmmaker as a team – only one joint application needs to be submitted in such cases.

How to Apply:

Applicants must submit the following materials for consideration:

• A cover letter explaining what inspired you to apply to the Documentary Lab and why this is the right time for you to participate in the program.
• A project description that includes a logline, story summary/synopsis, topic summary, artistic approach, project stage and timeline.
• A summary of distribution/marketing strategy and intended audience.
• A summary of key creative personnel, including bios for each creative team member and a list of attached advisors or consultants.
• Overall fundraising strategy and funding to date.
• Budget information.
• A sample of the director’s prior work or a current work sample.

6. Call for submissions: Atlanta Film Festival 2022

7. Call for submissions: 9th edition of the Aflam Festival

The association Aflam organizes since 2013 the Aflam Festival, a non-competitive film festival, and offers a wide-ranging and high-level overview of cinema in all its forms approaching topics linked to the Arab world. Aflam is opening the door to applications for the ninth edition of its festival, which will take place in April 2022 in Marseille and the region (France).

Participation Requirements:
• Movies related to the Arab world : topics, the movie’s language, country of production, director’s nationality.
• Features of short movies.
• Documentary, fiction, animated movie, sound creations, video installation, experimental (excluding video clips, advertisements and corporate movies).
• Movies produced in 2020/2021.

8. Call for submissions: Alumni Awards 2021-22

The British Council has launched the eighth year of a prestigious award celebrating the outstanding achievements of the UK’s international alumni around the world.

The Study UK Alumni Awards are open to alumni living anywhere outside of the UK. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, industries and countries. The Study UK Alumni Awards celebrate and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education and raise the international profile of UK alumni and their former universities.

The awards are open to alumni currently residing in any country outside the UK, who have either studied in the UK, at an officially recognised provider of UK university degree level study for a minimum of a term or semester or who have been awarded a full UK degree level qualification (or higher), by a UK university through a local institution overseas, within the last 15 years.

The Awards are open for four categories one of which is:

Culture and Creativity Award recognising alumni who have carved a career for themselves in arts and culture. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate their artistic ingenuity, influence and creativity. Areas of work could include: Arts, design, media, video, TV, music, bloggers, vloggers, Youtubers and the humanities.
