1. Call for Applications: Rawi Screenwriters Lab Deadline Extended
The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) has extended the deadline for receiving applications to the 16th Rawi Screenwriters Lab; don’t miss your chance to apply!

Extended submissions deadline: Sunday, 26th April 2020 at midnight (Jordan Time).

Chosen Arab Screenwriters (Fellows) are granted the opportunity to develop their first or second feature-length narrative screenplays under the guidance of critically acclaimed screenwriters (Creative Advisors). Advisors will have one-on-one intensive sessions and conversations with the Fellows about their projects to embrace their vision and help them find the most compelling way to tell their stories.
The Lab is now receiving applications for an extra two weeks, submit your screenplay for a chance to develop it and enhance your screenwriting skills!

Lab days: Between Sunday, November 29th and Sunday, December 6th, 2020.

2. Call for Fund: Jordan Film Fund (JFF) 5th cycle
The Royal Film Commission-Jordan (RFC) invites filmmakers to apply to the Jordan Film Fund (JFF) 5th cycle, which aims to enable filmmakers to tell their stories as well as develop the independent film industry and contribute to its sustainability, especially in Jordan.

With a total budget of JD 250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand Jordanian Dinars) this year (2020), JFF will support cinematic and TV series projects in the following categories:

 ● Feature-length narrative and documentary projects (60 minutes and above) at their development, production and post-production stages.

 ● Short narrative, documentary and animated films (5 to 25 minutes) at production stage only.

 ● Further to supporting the development of TV series.

Due to the global health situation and the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID19), the application deadline for all categories has been postponed until 29th May 2020 at midnight (Jordan time).

An independent jury of established film and TV professionals will evaluate eligible applications in cinema and TV categories and will decide on the selection process. Their assessment will consider projects’ originality, creative merit, feasibility, as well as the filmmakers’ credentials and abilities.

Based on the new deadline, the jury’s meeting will take place at the beginning of August 2020 and applicants will be notified of the jury’s decision by mid-August 2020.

3. Call for Applications: AFAC Documentary Program

The AFAC Documentary Program supports creative documentary films in the Arab region. The program welcomes submissions of short and medium-length documentary in production and post-production, and feature documentary film projects that are in development, production or post-production phases.

Eligible Candidates

AFAC is open to receive project applications from Arab directors and producers living in the Arab region or in the diaspora. A non-Arab producer can apply for a grant provided that the film director is Arab. It is highly recommended that film projects applying to the production and post-production grants have producers attached to them. Project applications are accepted irrespective of age, years of experience, country of residence, ethnicity, gender or religion.

A film producer is eligible to apply with a maximum of two projects per category per cycle provided the two projects are not attached to the same director. However, if a film producer has one open grant, s/he can apply with one project. If s/he has two open grants, s/he is not eligible to apply before closing one grant at least.

How to Apply

Applications are only accepted through our online application forms available on our website. Applications submitted via regular mail or e-mail will not be accepted.

The applicant will receive a confirmation e-mail once the online application has been received. AFAC will not contact applicants if any part of their application is incomplete.

Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.

Grants Announcement

The grant winners will be announced and published on the AFAC website and Facebook page after the jury meetings conclude. An automatic email will be sent to applicants whose projects were not selected to receive grants.

4. Call for Submissions: IDFA 2020 festival submissions

Accepting submissions for IDFA 2020! Send your films, performances, and interactive/immersive projects to be considered for the 33rd edition of IDFA, taking place November 18th to 29th, 2020.

About IDFA:

IDFA selects approximately 300 titles every year in 10 competitions, a wide range of non-competitive program sections, and an expansive new media program with works showcased in a physical exhibition or as experimental live performances. With locations across Amsterdam, the festival welcomes some 295,000 visitors, including 3,300 industry professionals and 40,000 school children, making it the world’s largest and most influential documentary film and new media festival.

July 1st is the new submission deadline for performances and interactive/immersive new media projects. These projects will be considered for IDFA DocLab, IDFA on Stage, and other program sections that explore different ways of showcasing documentary art.

If you are submitting a project for IDFA on Stage, please fill out the entry form for performances and new media projects, not the film entry form.

Submission deadlines:

1st May 2020 – for all films completed between August 1st, 2019 and April 30th, 2020.

1st July 2020 – for all performances and interactive/immersive new media projects.

1st August 2020 – for all films completed after April 30th, 2020.

5. Call for submissions: The 14th Arabic and Mediterranean Film Festival of Catalonia

Participation Requirements

 1. Section “In Perspective”

60 minutes or more movies or documentary movies filmed by directors from Arab countries in the last 10 years.

 2. Section “Today looks”:

60 minutes or more movies or documentary movies filmed by directors from Arab countries in the last three years.

 3. Please send a download link or DVD copy before 1st June, 2020. The film must be subtitled in French, English or Spanish.

 4. The Film Festival will only contact the persons in charge of the selected films. The copies received will not be returned.

Selected Films

 5. In case a movie is selected, we ask you to please send us the following items before the 15th July, 2020:

 - Synopsis

 - Biography and filmography of the director

 - Photography of the director and of the film in JPG 300dpi format

 - Film Poster in JPG 300dpi format

 - Trailer

 - List of the dialogues in timecode (in English, French or Spanish)

Movies’ Subtitles

 6. The movies will be projected in V.O (original version), subtitled in Catalan or Spanish. The Festival will be providing subtitling for the selected movies.

6. Call for Submissions: CineGouna SpringBoard

The mission of El Gouna Film Festival is to showcase a diverse selection of films for a passionate and knowledgeable audience, and to foster better communication between different cultures through the art of filmmaking. Its goal is to connect filmmakers from the region with their international counterparts in the spirit of cooperation and cultural exchange through the presentation of the finest recent cinematic productions. The Festival is committed to the discovery of new voices and strives to be a catalyst for the development of cinema in the Arab World.

The 4th edition of El Gouna Film Festival will be held from September 24 to October 2, 2020, in El Gouna, located in the Red Sea Governorate, Egypt.

Submission of films to GFF will open on 1st March 2020 and close on 15th July 2020.

Submission of both feature-length and short films for selection in the programme of the 4th edition of GFF must be made in accordance with the provisions set out in El Gouna Film Festival’s Rules and Regulations.

A preview committee appointed by the Festival will view and shortlist films from eligible entries. The GFF programming team will make the final selection from the shortlisted entries.

7. Call for Fund: Narrative Short & Documentary Short Film Funding in a Sentence - the Film Fund

Write one sentence that (1) describes the premise of your narrative short \ documentary short film and (2) explains how you'll use the funding to complete the film if you're chosen as a winner.

 

In short, pitch your narrative short \ documentary short  film in a sentence.
 

By entering any of our contests, you get to join our growing community of filmmakers and financiers. Even if your project isn't selected in a main contest, the organizer may contact you with funding to develop a different project.
