    1. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission: Production Services Liaison Officer
      

    The Production Services Liaison Officer will be in charge of all activities related to locations scouting, set visits and liaising with external parties on all issues related to the production department.

    Responsibilities:
    - In charge of customs and shipping procedures and processes, including using the Customs Department software to log shipments and follow up on them.
    - Coordinate and follow up on shipments coming in and out of the country for productions.
    - Assist with assessing and processing the Tax Exemption application, in consultation with Manager.
    - In charge of the maintenance and updates of the Locations Library.
    - Prepare locations presentations, as required.
    - Conduct location scouting, as required.
    - Train department colleagues on scouting locations.
    - Handle production projects from start to end, following set filing procedures, and includes preparing all official letters for permits, letters to concerned entities, follow up on approvals and notifying productions when their permits are ready.
    - Conduct set visits to lend support to productions.
    - Problem-solving and trouble-shooting production issues that may arise, in consultation with the Manager.
    - Maintain the department’s filing system in an organized manner, and update production logs and contacts lists in a timely manner.
    - Share all department’s related communication with external parties with all department colleagues to ensure continuity for all projects.
    - Assist in hospitality events for visiting production guests.
    - Work as part of a team on preparations and logistics for FAM tours and other department events.
    - Represent the RFC in industry trade shows and markets.
    - Conduct research, as required.

    Qualifications:
    - Minimum three years’ experience in a similar position.
    - Minimum 1-year experience in film production.
    - Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in Arabic and in English.
    - Film culture is a must.
    - A degree in Film is preferable.
    - Capacity to work autonomously.- Excellent team player.
    - Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
    - Flexible to work outside working hours and on weekends.
    - Flexible to work in various governorates around the Kingdom and outside Amman.

    2. Call for submissions: Jordanian Short Film Competition 2019 as part of the 31st European Film Festival 

     

    The European Union in Jordan and EUNIC Jordan are organizing the 31st edition of the European Film Festival - Jordan which will be held from September 12-22, 2019.

    The festival is calling for Jordanian short films (all categories) to compete. The film needs to have been produced through an educational program (university, school or workshop) in Jordan.

    The winner will be announced during the closing.

    SUBMISSION CRITERIA
    - The competition is open to filmmakers from Jordan and residing in the Kingdom, provided they have done their film as part of their university/school education or through a training program.
    - The film must be at least partly shot in Jordan.
    - The film should not exceed 10 minutes.
    - The film has to have been produced after 2016.
    - Each director can submit one film only.
    - All genres are accepted (narrative, documentary,
    animation, experimental).
    - The film must be subtitled in English, if it is in Arabic; or
    subtitled in Arabic if it is in English.
    - The director or producer should provide two DVD or
    Blu-Ray copies of the film (which will not be returned) to
    the address below. Sending the film electronically by link
    will not be acceptable.

    The Director or Producer should provide the following:

    - The application form should be typed (not in handwriting).
    - A printed hard copy of the application form along with the film copies must be also submitted, in addition to sending the application form by email to:

    Based on the selection of the jury, ONE winner will be selected. (S)he will be invited to travel to a European country and attend a European film festival.

    (On condition of being over 18 years old and providing the necessary documents for the visa for the trip).

    The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony of the European Film Festival.

    EUNIC does not take responsibility in case the winner fails to fulfill the conditions needed for his/her travel.

    The competition is in partnership with The Royal Film Commission Jordan - RFC, TaleBox and the Malmo Arab Film Festival.

    3. Call for submissions: Submit your feature film for consideration for the Oscar Awards


    If you are a Jordanian director or producer and have made a film over 40 minutes – narrative, documentary or animation – and have released your film commercially in Jordan between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019 for at least 7 consecutive days, you can submit your film for consideration for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. An independent Selection Committee – established by the RFC – will look into the submitted films that have to fit eligibility criteria set by the Academy for the International Feature Film Award (check Rule 13: https://www.oscars.org/sites/oscars/files/92aa_rules.pdf).

    The criteria include amongst others: a predominantly non-English dialogue, creative control of the film to be largely in the hands of the Jordanian filmmaker.

    4. Call for applications: A New Grants Program for North Africa by Arab Fund for Arts and Culture

    The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) recently launched a new grants program titled the North Africa Cultural Program, dedicated to the five countries of North Africa - namely Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya.

    The program runs over three years (2019-2022) and comprises of two support schemes: a National Fund and a Regional Fund. Together, the two funds aim to strengthen independent arts and culture entities (institutions, collectives, networks, spaces…), encourage regional collaborations, and focus on supporting distribution, circulation and dissemination of artistic works in all fields.

    The National Fund offers support in the form of core and program funding to strengthen the structures of independent arts and culture entities and for their increased engagement and outreach, as well as the training and skill-building of young artists and emerging professionals.

    The Regional Fund supports collaborative projects that are jointly created among entities; the distribution, dissemination and circulation of artistic works and productions to broad audiences; the documentation, archiving and sharing of data, knowledge, and contemporary practices in arts and culture; as well as exchanges on the development of frameworks for arts and culture education and cultural policies.

    The call for applications for the program’s two funds opened on May 16, 2019 on the AFAC website. The deadline for applying to the National Fund is August 1, 2019; the results will be announced in October 2019.

    As for the Regional Fund, its call for application operates via a rolling call starting May 16 and ending November 1, 2019, with two separate deadlines and announcements, namely August 1 for the first deadline and October 10, 2019 for the first announcement, then November 1, 2019 for the second deadline and January 10, 2020 for the second announcement.

    5. Call for submissions: The 41st Cairo International Film Festival

     

    Submissions are now open to the 41st edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF); an annual international film festival organized by the Ministry of Culture in Egypt.

    The 41st Cairo International Film Festival will be held in Cairo from November 20 –29, 2019 having its headquarters at the Cairo Opera House.

    CIFF aims to contribute towards the development of the art and science of film and encourage intercultural dialogue.

    6. Call for Submissions: Carthage Film Festival 2019

     

    Submissions are now open to the Carthage Film Festival 2019 that will take place in Tunisia from 26 October to 2 November 2019.

    The Carthage Film Festival also known through its French acronym JCC (JOURNÉES CINEMATOGRAPHIQUES DE CARTHAGE) is an annual event of which the founding goal is to present films to the general public and to organize meetings between the public, authors, directors, producers, distributors, technicians, interpreters and every person involved in the cinematographic field. The main objective of these cinematographic days is to showcase and promote African and Arab films.

    - JCC accepts feature narrative films, animated films and short or long documentary films.
    - A film with a minimum length of 60 minutes is considered as a feature film.
    - Short films are defined as any film with a maximum duration of 30 minutes.

    The official JCC program includes the following sections:
    - OFFICIAL COMPETITION section: open to long and short African and Arab feature or animation films.
    -OFFICIAL COMPETITION OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS section: open to long and short African and Arab documentary films.
    -Official Competition The Carthage Cine-Promises section: is intended to present African and Arab film schools are accepted feature films, fiction, animation or documentaries with a maximum duration of 30 minutes.
    - Official Selection Out of competition section: open to long and short African and Arab Feature or Animation or Documentary films.

    7. Call for applications: TAKMIL Workshop as part of Carthage Film Festival 2019

     

    TAKMIL workshop will take place in Tunisia during the Carthage Film Festival on 28, 29 and 30 October 2019. TAKMIL aims to enable African and Arab filmmakers to submit their films, in the post-production phase, to the expertise of an international jury.

    TAKMIL workshop presents African and Arab projects in the phase of post production to an international jury composed of five professionals from the film industry.
    The projects are also presented to Carthage Pro guests: sales agents, distributors, fund managers, or festival programmers. During 3 days, from 28 to 30 October 2019, the 10 selected works in Progress are screened in optimal conditions.

    Each screening is followed by a 30-minute discussion between the duet director/producer and the jury members.

    At the end of the three days, the jury will award grants to the most promising projects.
    The closing ceremony of TAKMIL and TAKMIL will be held on October 30, 2019.

    8. Call for submissions: The 37th BUFF Malmo Film Festival

     

    The 37th edition of BUFF, the international film festival for children and young people in Malmö, Sweden, will take place March 21-27, 2020.

    The film submission for the next festival is open until the 15th of November.

    BUFF’s vision is to strengthen children and young people by giving them valuable film experiences that inspire and create conditions for increased self understanding and inclusive society.

    The festival accepts features, documentaries, animations and short films from all over the world.

    The main target groups for BUFF are children and young people (age 3-19).
    BUFF only accepts films with first official screening date after January 1st, 2019.
    Some films will be selected for one of BUFF's competitions, but most of the films will be screened outside competition. For films in competition, the festival is mainly looking for films that will have the Swedish, European or World Premiere at BUFF.

    Main competitions are:

    Best film for children / 8 films competing for The City of Malmö’s Children’s Film Award 100.000 SEK.
    Best film for young people / 8 films competing for The Church of Sweden Award 100.000 SEK
    Best short film for children and young people (maximum duration of 15 minutes) / 8 films competing for the Region Skåne Short Film Award 100.000 SEK
    The Young People’s Film Award, organized by the department for Culture for Children and Youth in the City of Malmö 25.000 SEK
