1. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan:

Regional Training Department Assistant
The incumbent will report to the Regional Training Department Manager.

Purpose of the post:
Reporting directly to the Regional Training Department Manager, the Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and logistical support to the department’s programs including Rawi Screenwriters Lab, Med Film Factory, Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Anthology program.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in implementing procedures, practices and processes to meet operational, logistics and services needs.
  • Assist in the coordination of all administrative and legal contracting with the Head of the Department and with RFC's legal advisor.
  • Liaise with RFC’s Administration Department regarding seeking price offers, travel, bookings, purchasing, quotations, catering and logistics for all projects and programs.
  • Assist in interrelated correspondence with the team members, applicants and participants.
  • Assist in breaking down applications and identifying their missing material. Responsible for preparing all administrative documents relevant to the department’s projects and programs.
  • Responsible for filing all documents relevant to the department’s projects and programmes.
  • Assist in drafting administrative correspondence with the team members and interlocutors as needed.
  • Assist in providing general and specific information for the department’s reporting, monthly, annual and upon request. Assists in updating the content related to the Regional Training programs for social media and the RFC website in correlation with the other departments.
  • Work with the financial department to help set up financial reports, monthly, annual and upon request.
  • Coordinate and translate publication materials with related parties such as participants and RFC’s other departments.
  • Attend workshops, venues and events as required by projects and Project Manager;  this might include overnight stay.
  • Perform other administrative and logistical tasks or duties that may be assigned by the Manager.
Requirements:
  • A BA in business administration or any relevant field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and in English. French and/or German is a plus.
  • Experience in filmmaking and knowledge of film production and culture is a plus.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.
  • Flexible and creative.

2. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan:

Film Center Facilitator
The incumbent will report to Film Centers’ Supervisor.

Position Description:
To support and assist in the planning, coordination and implementation of the filmmaking workshops, films screenings and events organized at Irbid Film Center and in Amman.

Responsibilities:
  • To work closely with the Supervisor in planning and implementing filmmaking workshops and related activities at Irbid Film Center;
  • To coordinate logistical and financial tasks for the workshops; including preparations for the workshop;
  • To provide reporting requirements when needed;
  • To liaise among the workshops’ trainers at all stages of the programs/workshops;
  • To assist in writing and distributing workshops announcement and callouts;
  • To process and track all workshops’ paperwork, including participants’ forms, questionnaires, scheduling applications and invitations and prepare final reports and lessons learnt;
  • To assist the participants by providing appropriate information;
  • To assist, organize and implement film-related activities.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in filmmaking or any related field.
  • Experience in filmmaking and the film industry is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with local community.
  • Ability to manage and support groups and activities.
  • Excellent command of Arabic, and very good knowledge of English.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to work with different schedules.

3. Call for applications: Med Film Factory - 6th Cycle
The Royal Film Commission (RFC) – Jordan welcomes applications to the sixth round of Med Film Factory (MFF), which will be held in Jordan for ten days in October 2019. Six teams of producers and directors will be selected to participate in this year’s cycle (three teams from Jordan -including any Arab national residing in Jordan- and three teams from the Arab world).

Med Film Factory is a specialized training program for teams of Arab film producers and directors, working on their first or second feature narrative film that offers participants the opportunity to advance their creative and professional skills while supporting the realization of their projects.

The ten-day MFF training scheme is comprised of script mentorship, creative and practical producing and hands-on shooting exercise under the guidance of renowned mentors and experts. In addition, all the teams who successfully completed the program will be invited to participate in regional and international film markets to meet with and pitch their projects to professionals and potential partners.

Eligible countries are: Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Djibouti, Somalia and Comoros.

The application deadline is May 15th, 2019.

4. Call for applications: The Jordan Film Fund
The Royal Film Commission-Jordan (RFC) invites filmmakers to apply to the Jordan Film Fund (JFF) which aims to enable filmmakers to tell their stories as well as develop the independent film industry and contribute to its sustainability, especially in Jordan.

With a total budget of JD 250,000 (two hundred and fifty thousand Jordanian Dinars) this year (2019), JFF will support cinematic and TV series projects in the following categories:
  • Feature-length narrative and documentary projects (60 minutes and above) at their development, production and post-production stages.
  • Short narrative, documentary and animated films (5 to 25 minutes) at production stage only.
  • Development of TV series.
An independent jury of established film and TV professionals will evaluate eligible applications in cinema and TV categories and will decide on the selection process. Their assessment will consider projects’ originality, creative merit, feasibility, as well as the filmmakers’ credentials and abilities.
Applications in all categories are to be submitted by 21st April 2019 at 12 AM (midnight - Jordan time). Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered.

5. Call for submissions: The 13th Jordanian Short Film Competition
The 13th Jordanian Short Film Competition is organized as part of the 25th edition of
the Franco-Arab Film Festival.

The Institut Français de Jordanie, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC), is organizing the 25th edition of the Franco-Arab Film Festival, which, will be held from the 17th until the 24th of June, 2019. The festival is calling for Jordanian short films (documentary and narrative) to compete. Winners will be announced during the closing reception.

Submission criteria:
  • The competition is open to filmmakers residing in Jordan or abroad. Either the director or the producer should be Jordanian.
  • The film must be at least partly shot in Jordan.
  • The film should not exceed 20 minutes.
  • The film has to have been produced in 2018 or 2019.
  • Each director can submit one film only.
  • Only short narratives and documentaries can be submitted. Animated films or experimental films will not be accepted.
  • The film must be subtitled in English or French, if it is in Arabic; or subtitled in Arabic, if it is in English or French.
  • The director or producer should provide 2 DVD or Blu-ray copies of the film (which will not be returned). Sending the film electronically by link is not acceptable.
The director or producer should provide the following:
1. An application form in Arabic or in English which can be found on the RFC’s website: www.film.jo 
  • The application form should be typed (not handwritten).
  • A printed hard copy of the application form along with the film copies must also be submitted, in addition to sending the application form by email to: marian.nakho@film.jo 
  • The application form should cover technical details regarding the film, synopsis (40 – 100 words) and the filmmaker’s information.
2. A soft copy of the film poster or still photo should be sent to marian.nakho@film.jo

PRIZES:

  • There will be two prizes based on the selection of the jury and two prizes based on the audience vote for the documentary and fiction categories.
  • The four winning films will receive a trophy created by the Jordanian sculptor Hazem Al Zubi.
  • The two Jury prizes for the best narrative and best documentary will be invited by the French edition of the Franco-Arab Film Festival in France to present their films (on condition of providing the necessary authorizations for the trip). The full stay will be covered (accommodation and plane ticket).
  • In addition, the RFC will offer a one-year subscription at the Film Library to the four winners.

6. Call for submissions: PriMed - International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary Film and Reportage
The 23rd edition of PriMed - International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary Film and Reportage is accepting submissions of documentary films.

PriMed is open to all directors, producers and distributors who, through their programmes or films, contribute to a better understanding of the countries of the
Mediterranean basin in its widest sense, from the Atlantic coasts to the Black Sea.

The audiovisual works presented should be about the culture, heritage, history, societies and life of the men and women living in Mediterranean countries. They must not contain any form of advertising or propaganda.

Each work can only be entered for one category, and the choice must be clearly indicated in the application form.

 The competition has three phases:
  • January 2019 : call for films - Deadline for registering and sending films: 15th April 2019
  • May / June 2019 : an international Selection Committee chooses the films which will be shown in the finals
  • November / December 2019, finals of PriMed : the International Jury watches the films and decides the winners; meetings of Mediterranean Young People Jury; public screenings and meetings; awards ceremony.
Conditions

The presented works:
  • must have been produced after January 1st, 2018;
  • must not have already been submitted to a previous edition of PriMed;
  • in the case of a documentary series or a film with more than one episode, only one episode can be submitted;
  • in the case of a co-production, the programme may only be entered into the competition by one of the producers, with prior agreement from the other partners. The name of all the co-producers must be included in the application form.

7. Call for submissions: Malmo Arab Film Festival Development Fund and Market Forum
Submissions for Malmo Arab Film Festival (MAFF) Development Funding is now open!

MAFF Development Funding aspires to stimulate co-productions between Sweden and the Arab countries and is available for feature, documentaries and short films.

MAFF offers development funding to emerging and established filmmakers, who have a compelling and distinctive story to tell. The aim is to encourage and enable filmmakers to develop their work and ambitions. It is also keen to encourage films with Arabic cultural content, reflecting the Arab world and Arab life.

The deadline for submissions is on May 31st, 2019.

Since its inception in 2011, Malmo Arab Film Festival has served as an influential platform for Arab filmmakers and talent at an international level, by spearheading the cinema movement in the region.

The festival's industry arm, MAFF Market Forum, will run alongside MAFF and provide a dynamic environment for fruitful interaction and discovery of the world of the Arab cinema. Malmo Market Forum has different networking sessions, panel discussions, seminars and pitching sessions from various film professional from all over the world.

Submissions are now open for the 5th edition of MAFF Market Forum “MMF”, running from October 5-8, 2019.

If you wish to have your film considered for MMF 2019, please read carefully and accept the Rules and Regulations before submitting your film.

8. Call for submissions: Toronto International Film Festival
Submissions to the 44th annual Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) are now open!

TIFF runs from September 5 to 15, 2019.
Submission Categories and Category Eligibility Requirements:
 
Canadian Features: with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer.
Canadian Documentary Features: with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer.
Canadian Shorts: with runtimes of 49 minutes or less.

International Features: with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer.
International Documentary Features: with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer.
International Shorts: International films with run times of 49 minutes or less.
 
 A Film will not be eligible for consideration and should not be submitted if:
  1. completed prior to September 1, 2018; or
  2. previously submitted to TIFF for Festival consideration; or
  3. had theatrical releases, been for sale on DVD/VOD, aired on television or been publicly posted online in North America;
The early deadline to submit is April 26, 2019, the standard deadline is May 31, 2019 and the late deadline is June 14, 2019.

9.  Call for submissions: Paris Human Rights International Film Festival
Over the past few years, Association ALLIANCE has been organizing annually the Paris Human Rights International Film Festival at the Nouveau Latina Cinema (Paris 4ème -M°Hôtel de Ville/Châtelet). Paris Human Rights International Film Festival will take place from 6 to 15 December 2019.

Dedicated to any kind of public, the festival aims to raise awareness of images and promote film education especially among young people. The Festival also contributes to bring unknown movies to the public attention. It thus offers to the Parisian people a great opportunity to screen original brand-new documentaries that usually remains out of the traditional distribution networks.
The FIFDH Paris is organized with the support of the Mairie de Paris, the Conseil régional d’Ile-de-France, the Acsé and the Secours Catholique-Caritas France.
Theme(s): Human Rights Features, documentaries, and animated movies.
