1. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan: Training Coordinator

The incumbent will report to the Capacity Building Manager.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

Reporting directly to the Capacity Building Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for planning, executing and accomplishing the objectives and goals of the projects/programs of the department.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Capacity Building Manager in planning, directing and implementing educational community programs, screening activities and any required activity during the year

  • Network and build relations with local NGOs, to ensure the smooth implementation of the educational activities

  • Assist the Capacity Building Manager in raising funds for the educational projects through proposal writing, arranging for meetings, preparing reports and researching potential funding opportunities.

  • Develop and implement detailed action plan for workshops for the programs, and monitor and track progress of the programs/workshops.

  • Prepare progress reports and specialized reports relevant to the activities and workshops.

  • Develop and implement procedures, practices and processes to meet operational, logistics and services needs.

  • Facilitate requirements when needed between departments at the RFC and its partners/ service providers involved in the projects in Jordan and abroad.

  • Implement events, adhering to RFC’s policies and procedures.Assist in the coordination of all legal contracts with the Manager, in coordination with the RFC legal advisor.

  • Liaise with the RFC’s Administration Department regarding price offers, travel, bookings, purchasing, quotations, catering and logistics for all projects and programmes.

  • Communicate directly with applicants seeking the Capacity Building Department’s labs, workshops and programs.

  • Responsible for preparing all administrative documents relevant to the department’s projects and programmes.

  • Break down applications, identifying their missing material and following up on them with the applicants.

  • Assist in interrelated correspondence with the team members, applicants/participants, mentors, crew, cast, etc.

  • Coordinate related logistics such as filing, event booking and reservations, etc.

  • Responsible for providing general and specific information for literature reporting, monthly, annual and upon request.

  • Work with the financial department to help set up reports, monthly, annual and upon request.

  • Coordinate and translate publication materials with related parties such as participants and RFC departments.

  • Attend workshops and events as required by the projects manager.

  • Perform other coordination tasks or duties that may be assigned by the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A BA in business administration or any relevant field.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and in English. French is a plus.

  • Exceptional presentation skills.

  • Experience in filmmaking and knowledge of film production and culture is

  • preferable.

  • Capacity to work autonomously and under pressure.

  • Excellent team player.

  • Ability to take swift decisions.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.

  • Flexible and creative.

2. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan: Filmmakers Technical Support Officer

Position Description:

This position provides technical and training support to Capacity Building training projects and filmmakers.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and maintain all film and multimedia production-related applications.

  • Research the new trends and up-to-date technical solutions and technologies.

  • Participate in the overall capacity building and multimedia production programs.

  • Train young filmmakers on video editing software’s, and help them through whole process of postproduction. (Either in film centers, Film House or production cycles).

  • Provide technical support for established filmmakers, through e-mail and phone.

  • Professional DVD’s Authorization.

  • Trouble shoots and provide support for editing software.

  • Maintain and update the inventory database and create safety backups of it.

  • Edit and supervise all videos, films and requests from RFC.

  • Any other task or assignment requested by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mastering film editing techniques, tech savvy.

  • University graduate preferably in filmmaking or in a related field.

  • Experience in filmmaking and film industry is a plus.

  • Willing to train and support groups and events.

  • Very good command in Arabic and English.

  • Excellent communication and organization skills.

3. Call for submissions: Toronto International Film Festival Next Wave 2019

Toronto International Film Festival is still accepting submissions for its Next Wave Film Festival 2019 for short films!

If you are a filmmaker aged 14-25 and have a short film, please send your work directly to nextwave@tiff.net , along with your name, location, age and a screening link for your film.

Please note that Next Wave no longer accepts submissions for feature length films.

4. Call for submissions: Tribeca Film Festival 2019

Submissions are now open for Tribeca Film Festival. The Tribeca Film Festival has set its 2019 dates – April 24 to May 5 – and announced that this year’s New York fest will include a “Critics Week” sidebar that Tribeca says is the first of its kind for a North American film festival.

A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences and introduces new technology and ideas through panels, premieres, exhibitions and live performance. Feature films invited to participate in the TFF19 will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, at their sole discretion.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS (FEATURES) 
Feature-length (40 minutes or longer) narrative and documentary films that have not screened publicly in the New York region prior to TFF19. Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution or exhibition before January 1, 2018. Read the complete rules and regulations.

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS (SHORTS)
Short-length (under 40 minute
s) narrative, documentary, animated and experimental films that have not screened publicly in the New York region prior to TFF19. Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution or exhibition before January 1, 2018. Students-directed short films are eligible for a discounted submission fee through the Tribeca Submissions Form

ELIGIBLE PROJECTS (TV) 
Episodic content including projects created for broadcast television and/or streaming, including pilots and episodes of existing series. All submitted pilots must show the potential for serial growth and cannot have screened publicly in the New York region prior to TFF19. Submitted episodes cannot have screened publicly prior to January 1, 2018.

5. Call for submissions: Melbourne Documentary Film Festival 2019

Submissions are now open to Melbourne Documentary Film Festival that will take place from 19th until 29th of July 2019. The call is open for documentaries that are well-made, compelling, thought provoking, passionate and relevant to Australian audiences.

The festival's mission is to discover and promote independent Australian documentaries, and to showcase the best international documentaries to Melbourne audiences. The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival provides a public forum and supportive platform to allow emerging filmmakers to showcase their work.

The festival wishes to highlight and promote all documentaries, but in particular:

  • Documentaries from Women in Film

  • Aboriginal and Indigenous documentaries

  • Asian cinema

Screenings at the Festival: 
84% of films screened at the festival are from film submissions 
16% are from distributors

Masterclasses: 
Each year, the festival programmes masterclasses seminars and talks geared towards helping documentary filmmakers get ahead.

6. Call for submissions: Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival

You can submit your film, VR experience &/or screenplay to the Cinequest Film & VR Festival.

The story and legacy of Cinequest is bringing together the Silicon Valley’s technologies and spirit of innovation with the arts to empower great creations—and connecting audiences, youth, artists, and innovators with these creations and with each other,  through the Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival.

7. Call for entries: Girls Impact the World Film Festival

Girls Impact the World Film Festival (GITWis calling for high school and undergraduate students to submit their 3-6 minute short films that address global women's issues such as: education for girls, maternal health, violence against women and girls and a variety of other issues.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 
Videos must 
either
(1) Raise awareness about critical issues affecting women and girls around the world OR
(2) Propose solutions to critical challenges faced by women. 

Please make sure your film addresses one of the issues below (in its entirety).

  • Economic independence for women and girls

  • Education for girls and women

  • Ending child marriage

  • Ending female genital mutilation (FGM)

  • Gender pay gap - equal pay

  • Global health for women and girls

  • Honest Beauty

  • Maternal mortality

  • Poverty affecting women and girls

  • Refugee Stories of women and girls

  • Sex trafficking and slavery of women and girls

  • Stand Up Men

  • Teen & child marriage

  • Violence against women

  • Women and girls in media

  • Women and girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)

  • Women in business (leadership)

  • Women and the environment (including water issues)

  • Applicant(s) must be 25 or under on December 31, 2018 (special circumstances may be considered)

    • Currently enrolled undergraduates (global) OR

    • Full-time high school students

    • The GITW Film Fest Competition is not open to any resident of the following countries: Cuba, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.

    • Each individual applicant may be involved in the making of up to two films. You may not enter more than two films.

8. Call for entries: Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) Awards 2019

The annual SOCIAL IMPACT MEDIA AWARDS are the official global media competition of SIMA STUDIOS, a non-profit impact media agency. SIMA supports and celebrates creative impact projects of excellence and screens films in communities and classrooms worldwide.

DOCUMENTARY FILMS (FEATURES + SHORTS)
SIMA AWARDS is looking for original, wise, brave, eye-opening and creative productions that capture and illuminate the pulse, the people and the movements behind today’s global issues. SIMA seeks productions that raise important questions about the state of contemporary world, and inspire viewers to reflect on the meaning and potential of social activism and social transformation.

VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) + 360
Social impact virtual reality films are said to be the future of empathy-building impact storytelling. SIMA is looking the trailblazers in this emerging field.

IMPACT VIDEOS (INNOVATIONS + CREATIVE IMPACT)
Organizations, foundations, creative agencies and content creators are invited to submit their work: Innovation videos that share unique insight into “how impact works”, capturing distinctive approaches, creative models, successful tactics and innovative projects in global development, education and social justice initiatives.

Creative impact and awareness videos that inspire critical consciousness of current social issues, for example: social-advertising, cause marketing, change-maker features, impact poetry films, or artistic takes on social advocacy.

SIMA is especially interested in:
Issues relating to UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Transparency and 
sustainability in the humanitarian/ human rights/ global development sector.
Everyday stories of individuals, groups and cultures.
Campaigning films geared to raising awareness and calls to action.
Examples of social engagement and activism – both positive and those that have not been successful.

ELIGIBILITY
Films must be completed between October 2017 and September 2018 to be eligible for entry. Each title is permitted to enter once to SIMA. Titles that have entered in the past are not permitted to enter into the competition in subsequent years. Each entry may be submitted by only one individual or organization. If the film is a co-production, the entrant assumes full responsibility for notifying the other co-production partners of the entry. In the event of multiple entries for the same film, copyright ownership will determine which entry is accepted. The entrant is responsible for securing and clearing all rights.

CATEGORY RULES
FEATURE – Individual, stand-alone documentary, 40 or more minutes in length.
SHORT – Individual, stand-alone documentary, less than 40 minutes in length.
VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) + 360 – Individual, stand-alone VR or 360-degree video, less than 20 minutes in length.
IMPACT VIDEO – Individual, stand-alone video, between 2 and 20 minutes in length.

(NOTE: Videos merely geared towards fundraising or brand advertising are not accepted.

9. Call for applications: Full scholarship from UCLA for Arab females to study Directing

The Hani Farsi Endowed Graduate Scholarship Fund is designed to give voice to the unique perspective of Arab women for the M.F.A. Degree Program in Directing. The program is focused on the power of story to not only delight and entertain, but to make a difference in the world.

A four-year scholarship is available and includes full tuition, registration fees, housing, meals and books. (Travel is not included.) The purpose of the scholarship is to study the art and craft of directing at the prestigious UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT) in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.

Women from the following eligible Arab league countries are strongly encouraged to apply: Jordan, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia and the UAE.
