1. Call for submissions: Jordanian Short Film Competition - The 30^th Edition of the European Film Festival

The European Delegation in Jordan and EUNIC Jordan in partnership with the Royal Film Commission - Jordan (RFC), are organizing the 30th edition of the European Film Festival which, will be held from September 19-29, 2018.

The festival is calling for Jordanian short films (all categories) to compete. The film needs to have been produced through an educational program (university, school or workshop) in Jordan.

Submission criteria:

• The competition is open to filmmakers residing in Jordan, provided they have done their film as part of their university/school education or through a training program.
•  The film must be at least partly shot in Jordan.
• The film should not exceed 10 minutes.
• The film has to have been produced after 2015.
• Each director can submit one film only.
• All genres are accepted (narrative, documentary, animation, experimental).
• The film must be subtitled in English, if it is in Arabic; or subtitled in Arabic if it is in English.
• The director or producer should provide two DVD or Blu-Ray copies of the film (which will not be returned) to the address below. Sending the film electronically by link will not be acceptable.

The Director or Producer should provide the following:

1. An application form in Arabic or in English which can be found on the EUFF’s Facebook page: European Film Festival - Jordan
• The application form should be typed (not in handwriting).
• A printed hard copy of the application form along with the film copies must be also submitted, in addition to sending the application form by email to: eunicjo.media@gmail.com
• The application form should cover technical details regarding the film, synopsis (40-100 words) and the filmmaker’s information.
2. A soft copy of the film poster or still photo should be sent to: eunicjo.media@gmail.com

Note: A committee will select among the submitted films those entitled to compete.

Based on the selection of the jury, ONE winner will be selected. (S)he will be invited to travel to a European country and attend a European film festival. (On condition of being over 18 years old and providing the visa for the trip). The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony of the European Film Festival.

2. Call for submissions: ALFILM- Arab Film Festival Berlin

Submission deadline for the upcoming ALFILM Festival is December 20^th. Any film submitted after that date will be automatically considered for the next festival edition.

ALFILM – The Arab Film Festival Berlin is, in Germany, provides a platform to the diverse Arabic cinema. The festival focuses on artistically and thematically outstanding films from the Arab World. ALFILM is a non-commercial film festival that has been organized yearly since 2009 by the non-profit organization Makan – Center for Arab Film, Arts and Culture.

ALFILM presents feature films, documentaries and short movies coming from or produced in Arab countries at different venues in Berlin – many of which are German or European premieres. The OFFICIAL SELECTION gather a selection of new releases (fiction, documentary and short movies) from the last three years.

Any feature film, documentary or short movie presenting at least one of the following characteristics is eligible to be presented at the festival, as long as it is not older as three years:

·        Directed by an Arab;

·        (Co-) produced in an Arab country,

·        Based on an Arab-world-related theme,

3. Call for films: The 5th BBC Arabic Festival

For its 2019 edition, the BBC Arabic Festival is seeking documentaries and short films that reflect current social and political situations in the Arab world.

The BBC Arabic Festival is an annual event that presents films about today’s Arab world to a UK and global audience. It is simultaneously a live event and series of special broadcasts that focus on independent films telling bold and relevant stories.

If you are a film or documentary maker, producer, journalist or a member of the public and have made a piece of work (a film, documentary or journalism piece) that explores key issues around power in the Arab world, then the BBC would like to hear from you.

Terms and Conditions

For a work to be eligible it must meet the following criteria:

1.     It must have been made after January 1, 2017;

2.     The subject matter must concentrate on an exploration of the political and social situation in, or directly affected by, the Arab world.

3.     The work must be a short fiction film, feature documentary or short documentary.

4.     Anyone being considered by the judges for the BBC Arabic Young Journalist Award must be between 18 and 30 on 10 September 2018.

5.     The judges’ decision as to the eligibility of individual entrants or their work will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

4. Call for submissions: Paris International Human Rights Film Festival

Dedicated to any kind of public, the Paris International Human Rights Film Festival - running December 5^th - 11^th, 2018- aims to raise awareness of images and promote film education especially among young people.

The Festival also contributes to bring unknown movies to the public attention.

It thus offers to the Parisian people a great opportunity to screen original brand-new documentaries that usually remains out of the traditional distribution networks.

The FIFDH Paris is organized with the support of the Mairie de Paris, the Conseil régional d’Ile-de-France, the Acsé and the Secours Catholique-Caritas France.

Theme(s): Human Rights Features, documentaries, and animated movies.

5. Call for submissions: Animetka International Animated Film Festival

The moment to submit your new animated gem to the 15^th edition of the Animateka International Animated Film Festival has come - the call for short animated films in the Regional Short Animated Film Competition programme, the European Young Talents Competition programme, and The Elephant International Children’s Film Competition programme is officially open!

Animateka, a week-long international festival of animated film takes place every year in Ljubljana’s Kinodvor and Slovenska kinoteka. This year, the festival is scheduled from December 3^rd until 9^th 2018.

The festival focuses primarily on the latest production of East and Central European short films. European student films and International films for children are also presented in competition programs. The festival includes a wide range of historical and thematic programs, which offer the audiences an insight into the beginnings and the development of animation, and present them with an overview of the best contemporary short and feature animated films on a worldwide scale.

The festival annually hosts many international authors and authorities in animation, which has made it an important crossroads of experiences, ideas and opinions, as well as a creative environment and a hotbed of new projects.

6. Call for entries: 2019 Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Film Festival

The Museum of Pop Culture is now accepting entries for the 2019 Science Fiction + Fantasy Short Film Festival (SFFSFF)! The fourteenth-annual festival will screen in Seattle, Washington in early 2019.

From now until October 15^th, MoPOP, in partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF), is encouraging original and creative science fiction and fantasy film submissions 15 minutes or shorter in length* for the festival.

Submissions will be judged based on originality, quality, artistic merit, innovation, voice, style and narrative.

SFFSFF is looking for animated or live-action submissions in science fiction (examples: futuristic stories, space adventure, technological speculation, social experiments, utopia and dystopia) and fantasy (examples: sword and sorcery, folklore, urban fantasy, magic, mythic adventure). The festival welcomes submissions that step outside the boundaries of reality and inspire a sense of wonder.

A nationally recognized panel of distinguished film, television, literature, and science fiction industry professionals, peers and film critics will review qualifying submissions and determine the winners.

7. Call for submissions: TYO's Short Film Festival

The 28^th edition of the Festival of TYO will be held once again this year on the 4^th and the 5th of October.

It's a festival of short films made by international students and organized by the association « Tant qu'il Y aura des Ohms ! » which will take place in October at the UGC theater in Cergy, near Paris, France.

In addition to the visibility provided by the event, trophies and monetary prizes (two times 800€ and 400€) will be rewarded during the festival, after a ruling by a jury of professionals.

This year’s edition will also host several debates held by video-graphers, actors and directors, on topics surrounding the world of cinematographic creation.

The festival is open to all film genres and all nationalities. Directors must be under 30 years old. Films must be less than 30 minutes and produced after the 1st of January 2017.

8. Call for submissions: The 6^th Indian Cine Film Festival

The 6^th Indian Cine Film Festival is now accepting submissions until the 20^th of August.

The Festival aims to create a platform for the meeting, sharing & development of great cinematic ideas.

The festival along with international competitive films screenings also holds a film market & industry oriented master classes & discussions.

The festival will provide a central point where industry people can share business and new opportunities shall be created for new talent.

The festival accepts films that meet the following criteria: 

·        Feature Films/Feature Animation/Feature Documentary: 61 min to 180 min (more than 60 min)

·        Short Film/Short Documentary/Short Animation: up-to 60min

·        Music Video: up-to 7 min & Ad Films- any duration

9. Call for submissions: The 36^th edition of BUFF, the International Film Festival for children and young people in Malmo

The 36^th edition of BUFF, the International Film Festival for children and young people in Malmo – Sweden will take place March 23-29, 2019.

BUFF’s aim is to bring world class cinema to a young audience.

Rules and regulations:

The festival does not accept submissions of films that have been screened officially before the year 2018.

The main target groups for BUFF are children and young people (age 3-19).

Films with first official screening date after January 1st 2018 are only accepted.

Some films will be selected for one of the festival’s competitions, but most of the films will be screened outside competition.

For films in competition, BUFF is mainly looking for films that will have the Swedish, European or World Premiere at BUFF.

The festival’s main competitions are:

·        Best film for children / 8 films competing for The City of Malm?’s Children’s Film Award 100.000 SEK.

·        Best film for young people / 8 films competing for The Church of Sweden Award 100.000 SEK

·        Best short film for children and young people (maximum duration 15 minutes) / 8 films competing for the Region Sk?ne Short Film Award 100.000 SEK

The Young People’s Film Award, organized by the department for Culture for Children and Youth in the City of Malm? 25.000 SEK

Deadline for submitting a film for BUFF 2019 is November 15^th, 2018.
