1. Call for submissions: The 12th Jordanian Short
Film Competition as part of the Franco-Arab Film Festival
|
The Institute Français in Jordan, in partnership with the Royal
Film Commission - Jordan (RFC), is organizing the 24th edition of
the Franco-Arab Film Festival, which, will be held from the 24th of
June until the 1st of July, 2018. The festival is calling for
Jordanian short films (documentary and narrative) to compete.
Winners will be announced during the closing reception.
Submission criteria:
-
The competition is open to filmmakers residing in Jordan or
abroad. Either the director or the producer should be Jordanian.
-
The film must be at least partly shot in Jordan.
-
The film should not exceed 20 minutes.
-
The film has to have been produced in 2017 or 2018.
-
Each director can submit
one film only.
-
Only short narratives
and documentaries can be submitted. Animated films or
experimental films will not be accepted.
-
The film must be
subtitled in English or French, if it is in Arabic; or subtitled
in Arabic, if it is in English or French.
-
The director or producer
should provide 2 DVD or Blu-ray copies of the film (which will
not be returned) to the aforementioned address. Sending the film
electronically by link is not acceptable.
The director or
producer should provide the following:

An application form in Arabic or in English which can be found
on the RFC’s website www.film.jo
-
The application form
should be typed (not in handwriting).

A printed hard copy
of the application form along with the film copies must also
be submitted, in addition to sending the application form by
email to
marian.nakho@film.jo

The application form
should cover technical details regarding the film, synopsis
(40 – 100 words) and the filmmaker’s information.

A soft copy of the
film poster or still photo should be sent to
marian.nakho@film.jo
Note: A
committee will select among the submitted films those entitled to
compete.
The deadline
for submissions is on 31st of May 2018.

PRIZES:

There
will be two prizes based on the selection of the jury and two
prizes based on the audience vote for the documentary and
fiction categories.

The four
winning films will receive a trophy created by the Jordanian
sculptor Hazem Al Zubi.
-
The two
Jury prizes for the best narrative and best documentary will be
invited by the French edition of the Franco-Arab Film Festival
in France to present their films (on the condition of providing
the necessary authorizations for the trip). The full stay will
be covered.

In
addition, the RFC will offer a one-year subscription at the Film
House’s Library to the four winners.

2. Call for submissions: Carthage Film Festival - Official
Competition |
The CARTHAGE FILM FESTIVAL also known through its French acronym JCC
(JOURNÉES
CINEMATOGRAPHIQUES DE CARTHAGE) is an annual event of which the
founding goal is to present films to the general public and to
organize meetings between the public, authors, directors, producers,
distributors, technicians, interpreters and every person involved in
the cinematographic field. The main objective of these
cinematographic days is to showcase and promote African and Arab
films.
The festival will
take place from 3 until 10 November 2018.

JCC accepts feature films, animated films and short or long
documentary films.
-
A film with a minimum length of 60 minutes is considered as a
feature film.
-
Short films are defined as any film with a maximum duration of
30 minutes.
The official JCC program includes the following sections:
-
OFFICIAL
COMPETITION section: open to long and short African and Arab
feature or animation
films.
-
OFFICIAL
COMPETITION OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS section: open to long and short
African and Arab documentary films.
-
Parallel sections: CINEMA OF THE WORLD, TRIBUTES, SPECIAL AND
OTHER SESSIONS: open to short and long films regardless of their
origin or their genres (feature, animation, documentary), as
well
as the Carthage Cine-Promises section of African and Arab films
School.
To be accepted in the OFFICIAL COMPETITIONS any film must: - be
directed by an African or Arab filmmaker. - not have been selected
in any other Tunisian festival, except for Tunisian films which are
not under such obligation. - be produced after the registration
closing date of the previous festival session. (15 August 2017
inclusive) - The OFFICIAL COMPETITION Sections are open to two (2)
short films and a maximum of two (2) long feature films per country,
with the exception of Tunisia, which may present four (4) long and
four (4) short films.
The Carthage Cine-Promises Section is intended to present feature
films, fiction, animation or
documentaries from African and Arab film schools with artistic
qualities revealing young filmmakers talent, deserving to be
showcased.
To be eligible for Carthage Cine-Promises Selection, all films must:
To be included in the JCC program, all film copies must be in DCP or
Blu-Ray.
Important note: in case of projection in DCP, a spare copy in Blue
Ray is compulsory.
A spare copy is also required in case of projection in Blue Ray.
Any film presented in the JCC Competition must be subtitled either
in French or in English or in Arabic in addition to its language of
origin.
The deadline for registration of films in the Official
Competition is 15 August 2018 (inclusive).
A copy of the film to be projected must reach the JCC Steering
Committee headquarters by September 15, 2018 (inclusive) at the

3. Call for applications: Takmil Workshop 2018 as part of
Carthage Film Festival |
The Takmil Workshop will take place in Tunis during the Carthage
Film Festival for three (3) days (5, 6 and 7 November 2018) in which
the director and the producer of each film will be invited to defend
their project before the jury.
Takmil workshop - meaning “finishing” in Arabic - aims to enable
African and Arab filmmakers to submit their films, in the
post-production phase, to the expertise of an international jury
composed of 5 members, in addition to providing material assistance
for the completion of African and Arab films by offering
post-production grant aids offered by the festival partners.

The
submitted films must be in the post-production phase and their
directors must be of African or Arab
nationality.
-
Feature films or creative documentaries with a minimum duration
of (60) minutes are eligible.
-
Rough Cuts of at least forty (40) minutes are accepted.
-
Copies submitted to the jury must be subtitled in English.
-
A director can only participate in the Takmil Workshop with one
project.
-
A producer can participate in Takmil Workshop with two projects
maximum.
The deadline for film registration is September 1, 2018.

4.
Call for submissions: Carthage Film Festival Producers Network |
The Producers Network was founded by Carthage Film Festival (JCC)
Management to support and encourage African and Arab directors and
producers with a feature film or documentary project in progress.
Organized for three days, the Producers Network aims to present, in
one-on-one meetings of thirty (30) minutes each, Arab and African
feature films in the development phase, and connect them with
potential partners, international producers, distributors,
broadcasters, or other industry players.
The Producers Network will take place on 5, 6 and 7 November 2018 as
part of the JCC.
Producers and directors who are citizens of an African or Arab state
are invited to present their projects.
A director and producer may only present a maximum of two projects.
Directors and producers wishing to participate in the Producer's
Network must have produced and / or directed at least three short
films or one feature film.
Applicants must provide a file in English and / or French and / or
Arabic. Two languages are required.
The pre-selection file should include the following:

A completed registration form

A short synopsis

A note of intention from the author
-
A one-page processed text
-
An estimated budget for the project.

A biofilmography of the author and the director
-
A biofilmography of the producer or the production company + a
photo
-
A biography of the director
-
A link for viewing the latest film made.
Only projects with complete files will be considered.
The projects must be submitted exclusively via the JCC registration
platform.
The deadline for accepting the projects is 1 September 2018.

5. Call
for submissions: Göteborg Film Festival 2019
|
Submit your film to the Göteborg Film Festival in Scandinavia
with its prestigious competitions: The Ingmar Bergman International
Debut Award, International Competition, Nordic Competition and
Nordic Documentary Competition.
Submissions for international films opens on May 15th 2018.

6. Call for submissions: The 54th Chicago International Film
Festival |
The Chicago International Film Festival is the longest-running
competitive film festival in North America. The festival takes place
from October 10th until 21st, 2018.
Films programmed in the competitions are eligible for awards
across a variety of categories.

Films completed on or after October 1, 2017 are eligible for
consideration
-
Films that have premiered on or before October 26, 2017 are NOT
eligible for consideration.

Films previously submitted to the Chicago International Film
Festival are NOT eligible for consideration.
-
Films must be at least a Chicago premiere, and US premieres are
given priority. Films that (a) have screened publicly in the
Chicago area, (b) have had a theatrical run in the US prior to
the Festival dates, (c) have aired on US television prior to the
Festival dates, or (d) are available for purchase in North
America are NOT eligible.
-
Feature-length films (narrative or documentary) that are
available for public online viewing in their entirety are NOT
eligible. Short films (under 40 min) may be available online.
-
Films shown at private screenings not open to the public (for
crew, investors, etc.) are eligible.
-
All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English.
Dialogue lists are not accepted.
-
Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to
submit the entry to the Festival and to use all music, images,
and content in the entry.
Deadlines:
Regular deadline entries must be postmarked/submitted online
by June 18, 2018.
Late deadline entries must be postmarked/submitted online by July 9,
2018.

7. Call for projects: Films Femmes Méditerranée (Women directors
from the Mediterranean area) |
On their 13th Encounters due to take place in Marseilles in October
2018, the association Films Femmes Méditerranée will organize a
one-day professional forum dedicated to professionals coming from
the Mediterranean area, women film-makers and both male and female
producers from Mediterranean countries. The aim is two-fold: first
to foster the production of projects carried out by the film-makers
selected, then to support the latter in the development of their
film thanks to the one-to-one exchanges with producers available to
them on this occasion.
Films Femmes Méditerranée
FFM is an association created in 2006 and based in Marseilles. It
organizes the annual Films Femmes Méditerranée Encounters, showing
about forty films (short and feature films, fiction and creative
documentaries, webseries) in the presence of female film-makers
coming from the Mediterranean area but also from the Balkans, Iran
or Georgia. The association also works all year long both with women
unfamiliar with the cinema and with secondary school students,
setting up educational workshops focussing on picture study.
The 13th edition of FFM Encounters will take place in Marseilles
from 4th to 13th of October, 2018.
Who may participate?
Any woman film-maker from any of the countries listed below who
carries out a project of feature film (whether fiction or creative
documentary), as long as she has already made a film, short or
full-length. She is potentially looking for a producer or a
co-producer.

Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt,
Spain, France, Georgia, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, Jordan,

Palestinian Territories, Tunisia, Turkey.
