Position’s Description
Under the direct supervision of the Capacity Building Manager, the Monitoring
and Evaluation Officer is responsible for monitoring and evaluating the
accomplishment of the objectives and goals of the projects/programmes of the
department.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and strengthen monitoring, inspection and evaluation
procedures;
• Monitor all projects’ activities, expenditures and progress
towards achieving the project output;
• Recommend further improvement of the logical framework;
• Develop monitoring and impact indicators for the project’s
success;
• Monitor and evaluate overall progress on achievement of
results;
• Monitor the sustainability of the projects’ results;
• Provide feedback to the Project Manager on projects’
strategies and activities;
• Suggest strategies to the Project Manager for improving the
efficiency and effectiveness of the projects, by
identifying bottlenecks in completing projects’ activities and developing
plans to minimize or eliminate such bottlenecks;
• Report monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annually on the
progress of all projects’ activities to the Project Manager;
• Conduct capacity assessment on existing monitoring and
evaluation system and develop indicators and a monitoring strategy for the project;
• Provide input, information and statistics for quarterly,
annually and other reports to the project management team;
• Participate in annual projects’ reviews, planning workshops
and assist the Project Manager in preparing other relevant reports;
• Assist Project Manager in the preparation of reports on the
findings and lessons learned from projects’ innovations;
• Prepare issues log and risk log for the projects;
• Prepare and maintain databases;
• File reports;
• Perform other duties as required.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in Management or related field.
- At least one year experience in monitoring and
evaluation of community-related projects.
- Very good communication skills, oral and written, in both English and
Arabic.
- Excellent ability to deliver and draft reports.
- Excellent team spirit.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Possess a driving license is a plus.

Each year, the Robert Bosch Stiftung issues three Film Prizes
for international cooperation between young German and Arab filmmakers to
realize a joint film project. The prizes, each worth up to 60,000 euros, are
awarded in the following: categories short animated film, short fiction film,
and short or feature length documentary.
Eligible for the Film Prize are mixed teams of German and Arab filmmakers who
are in the beginning of their film career. Furthermore, the film should be
produced in both partnering countries, stressing in particular the aspect of
intercultural exchange.
To facilitate the team-finding process, Arab directors will be invited to the
Project Market Amman to meet German producers.
The Project Market Amman
From 23rd until 28th April 2017 the Project Market Amman, introducing the
Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, takes place in Amman, Jordan in
cooperation with the Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC).
Up to twenty young directors from the member-countries of the Arab League are
invited to participate in the Project Market Amman to meet with up to fifteen
German producers. The Robert Bosch Stiftung will cover all costs of travel,
accommodation and catering.
During five days, a diverse program will offer filmmakers from the Arab
world and Germany various occasions to get to know each other, to introduce
each other’s work, to talk in detail about the directors’ project and to
exchange knowledge and experiences. Joint events and excursions will help
intensify the newly acquainted contacts.
The meetings between directors and producers do not necessarily have to
result in a partnership but will contribute to gain experience of an
international co-production market and extend the network. In case a team is
formed, the first step towards preparing for a joint application for the
following round of the Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung is created.
Who can participate in the Project Market Amman?
Arab directors (at the beginning of their career) and students or graduated
students from film and media academies, who are nationals and citizens of any
country member of the Arab League, can apply for the Project Market Amman, if
they have a project in development in one of the four categories (short
animated film, short fiction film, and short or feature length documentary).
Applicants must be able to communicate in English.
How to apply
To participate in the Project Market Amman, filmmakers must register at the
Online Project Market www.onlineprojectmarket.de
and fill in and upload all requested data. As project information, a one-page
logline and synopsis or project description are required, as well as a link
to their recent film. A script or treatment should be available on request.
Out of all submissions, up to twenty projects will be chosen by a selection
committee consisting of members of the RFC, experts from the Arab world and
the Film Prize Team to participate in the Project Market Amman.

Projects submitted by 8th March 2017 at the Online Project Market will be
considered as applicants for the Project Market Amman.

The call for members to join the Arab Film Institute (AFI) is
now open.
Applications are being accepted from Arab Film Professionals who are actively
involved in the film industry.
Founded in December 2016, the Arab Film Institute is a non-profit cultural
association based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Institute provide a platform where Arab films’ past, present and future
are discussed, imagined and celebrated by those who contribute to the
development of the film industry.
Designed to bring together the most promising and brightest of Arab
filmmakers under one roof, the AFI is the unique meeting point between the
art, technique and commerce involved in a prosperous film industry through

7. Call for applications: Cinephilia BOUND Initiative -
Cannes 2017

Cinephilia Productions announces the 1st edition of
Cinephilia BOUND Initiative that will take place at the 70th Cannes Film
Festival 2017 in partnership with Maison Des Scénaristes, the International
Scriptwriters' Pavilion.
Cinephilia Bound aims to facilitate the connection between international
producers & screenwriters/filmmakers from the Middle East and North
Africa who are working on their first, second or third feature film
project.
Cinephilia Bound offers the opportunity to filmmakers to attend one of the
most prestigious and industry studded festivals to pitch their projects to
some of the top producers and to facilitate a dialogue for possible
international co-productions.
During the four days at Cinephilia Bound, selected filmmakers will pitch
their projects, meet producers and festival programmers, attend
masterclasses, networking events and parties with industry professionals as
well as enjoy a full accreditation to attend all the festival screenings
and, of course, an ongoing support from Cinephilia Productions.
Cinephilia Bound offers
- 4 nights accommodation at villa Maison Des Scénaristes (10-15 minutes
walk to festival Palace)
- Travel cost up to $300 (USD) (economy flight ticket)
- One-on-one pitching sessions at Maison Des Scénaristes Pavilion

Eligibility requirements
- Career and emerging screenwriters and film directors are welcome to
apply. (Screenwriters working on literary adaptations must provide rights
clearance documents. Screenwriters working on a project without a director
attached are highly encouraged to apply. Film directors can be
screenwriters-directors or working on directing a screenplay written by
another screenwriter. In this case, an agreement between the writer and the
director should be presented.) Please note: Producers are not eligible to
apply.
- Must be citizen of and residing in one of the eligible countries.
Applicants residing outside the eligible countries must provide a proof of
citizenship.
- Must be in development of their first, second or third narrative or
documentary feature film project. (Experimental films are not eligible.)
For documentary filmmakers, projects that have initiated principal photography
can be considered. Please send us an email with your project status before
applying to assess your eligibility.
- Must have a proven track record of work such as previous short film(s),
feature film or produced screenplays (writers who do not have a produced
screenplay to their credit will be asked to submit a writing sample from
other screenplays.)
- Must be over 21 years old
- Must have valid passport
- Must have good command of English language
- Collaborative groups (co-writers or co-directors) must present one
application. If selected, Cinephilia Bound covers the cost for only 1
filmmaker.

Communications Scholarships

The Jack G. & Bernice M. Shaheen Endowed Media
Scholarship Fund secures the continuous support of increased educational
opportunities for bright, young, energetic Arab American students majoring
in mass communications, journalism and film.
The Jack
Shaheen scholarship awards aim to honor Arab-American students who excel in
Media Studies.
Eligibility: College students enrolled in the 2017-2018 academic
year; Juniors, Seniors and Graduate School students who are majoring in
Journalism, Radio, Television, and/or Film.
Applicants: Hard copy applications only. Send the following items to
American-Arab Anti-Discrimintation Committee (ADC) Research Institute:
- A one-page statement explaining why you merit the scholarship, your
goals, and a declaration that you are a U.S. citizen of Arab heritage.

9. Call for Applications: Pro Helvetia Residencies in 2017
and 2018
|
Pro Helvetia Cairo announces the annual call for
applications for residencies in Switzerland for artists and cultural
practitioners from the MENA region. Promoting creative exchange between
Switzerland and the Arab region: PHCO supports residencies for Swiss
artists in Arab countries, as well as for artists and cultural
practitioners from the Arab region in Switzerland.
Two kinds of
residencies are offered: Studio Residencies and Research Residencies.
Artists and
cultural practitioners (e.g. curators, event organizers, mediators) in the
areas of the visual arts, design and interactive media, music, literature,
theatre and dance are eligible to apply.
Pro Helvetia has a network of regional liaison offices in China, Egypt (for
the Arab region), India (for the Indian subcontinent), Russia and South
Africa (for Southern Africa). In order to enhance cultural exchange and
artistic collaborations between Switzerland and these regions, Pro Helvetia
offers residencies in both directions. Pro Helvetia Cairo is responsible of
facilitating this process in the MENA region.
1. Studio Residencies 2017
Pro Helvetia Cairo is re-launching the Studio Residency program. This year,
the program will be limited to residencies for artists between Switzerland
and Egypt only, with the aim to expand between Switzerland and the MENA
region in the upcoming year.

2. Studio Residencies 2018:
Studio Residency (3 months) in Switzerland gives artists the chance to gain
a broad insight into different environment. The aim of the residency is to
find inspiration, establish networks and contemplate new projects and
cooperation. In addition to a place to work and accommodation, Pro Helvetia
will provide specific coaching. The Swiss Arts Council covers the costs of
travel, insurance and per diem expenses.

3. Research Residency 2017 and 2018:
Research Residency (max. 4 weeks) enables artists and cultural
practitioners (e.g. curators, event organizers, mediators) to carry out
research in Switzerland and the MENA region. The aim of the residency is to
prepare an exchange project. Pro Helvetia supports the compilation of the
visiting programme. The Swiss Arts council covers the costs of travel,
accommodation, insurance and per diem expenses.
3.1 Selection Criteria
• Convincing track record: personal artistic activity above and beyond
regional
• Context-related motivation
• Adequate foreign language skills
• Specific cultural exchange project with sustainable impact and
international resonance, that meet the general criteria of Pro Helvetia.
