1. Call for submissions: The 27th Carthage Film Festival

The 27th Carthage Film Festival (JCC), to be held from October 28th to November 5th in Tunisia, has opened its call for submissions.

The official program of the Carthage Film Festival includes the following sections:

- OFFICIAL COMPETITION Section: open to African and Arab, animation and fiction and documentary, short and feature films. The duration of the short film must not exceed 30 minutes.

- Price TAHAR CHERIAA for FIRST WORK Section: open to Arab and African first work feature fiction or documentary films.

- CARTHAGE CINE PROMESSE - Section: International shutter, open to cinema school movies.

- PARALLEL SECTIONS : WORLD WIDE CINEMA, TRIBUTES, and SPECIAL MEETINGS AND OTHER: open to feature and short films, whatever their origin or their category (fiction, animation, documentary).

General Eligibility:

  • The Official Competition is open to films by African and Arab directors and producers.
  • Films must have been completed after October 2015 to be submitted to the competition.
  • The films participating in the OFFICIAL COMPETITION and DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION outside parallel sections and any special screenings must have been produced within the 12 months preceding the festival.

The registration deadline of films in the Official Competition sections and Carthage Cine Promesse is August 1st, 2016.

2. Call for submissions: IWC Filmmaker Award – 13th Dubai International Film Festival

Filmmakers from the Gulf region have the opportunity to compete for the IWC Filmmaker Award, where IWC Schaffhausen and Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) are currently accepting feature-length fiction scripts from Gulf filmmakers offering a cash prize of USD 100,000.

Projects in development from the following countries are eligible to apply: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Each year, three filmmakers are short-listed to vie for the award and are invited to the Dubai Film Market to present their projects.

IWC will present the award to the winner during the 13th Dubai International Film Festival, which will be held from December 7th until December 14th, 2016.

General Eligibility:

  • Directors must be citizens of one of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
  • Project must be in an advanced stage of development.
  • Projects must be feature-length fiction films.
  • Projects must have a producer attached.

3. Call for applications: The 2017 Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for International Cooperation (Germany and the Arab World)

The call for the 2017 Film Prize for International Cooperation between young filmmakers from Germany and the Arab World is now open.

The Robert Bosch Stiftung awards three Film Prizes for International Cooperation between young German and Arab filmmakers. The prize, worth up to 60,000 euros, is awarded in the following categories: short animation, documentary (short or feature length), short fiction film. Young filmmakers in the fields of production, directing, camera, and screenwriting are given an opportunity to explore the methods and creative styles of their partner country.

The three Film Prizes will be awarded at a gala during Berlinale Talents in Berlin. Up to two members of each winning team will have the opportunity to participate as guest at Berlinale Talents in the following year. Berlinale Talents is also represented in the jury.

Eligible are joint production teams of young filmmakers from an Arab country (one of the 22 member states of the Arab League) and Germany. The filmmakers should be in the beginning of their career. Applications must be made by teams, not individuals. The film should be produced in Germany as well as the partner country, stressing in particular the aspect of intercultural exchange.

General Eligibility:

  • Young filmmakers and students or graduated students from film and media academies from Germany and the Arab World are eligible for the contest.
  • Only teams may submit applications, who consist of Arab filmmakers and their German partners, and want to realize a joint film project.
  • The team’s producer must submit the project.
  • The team must feature a:
    • producer
    • co-producer
    • director
    • camera operator (not for animated films)
    • screenwriter
  • The team may have additional positions such as cut, music, etc.
  • Joint production teams must have at least four members. There should be a balanced mix of Arab and German team members. At least two members must originate from the partner country.
  • The working language in the scope of the competition is English. Contestants must be able to communicate in English.

4. Call for entries: The 14th Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier

The 14th Mediterranean Short Film Festival of Tangier, taking place from October 10th until 15th, is now calling for short films.

General Eligibility:

  • Mediterranean short fiction films produced between 2015 and 2016 within a running duration of 5 to 35 minutes are eligible for the festival.
  • All films sent to the festival must be submitted by completing the online submission form available on the website. It must be printed, signed and sent along with the DVD.
  • All documents mentioned must reach the festival’s office and addressed to:
    • Centre Cinematographique Marocain.
    • Quartier Industriel – Avenue El Majd – BP: 421 – Rabat – Morocco.

5. Call for submissions: The 16th Edition of Marrakesh International Film Festival

The Marrakech International Film Festival is a key cinema event in Morocco and on the international stage, the festival brings together important figures from the world of the arts, culture and media to the "Ochre City". The Marrakech International Film Festival encompasses diverse programs that provide platforms for dialogue, cultural exchange and tolerance. The event promotes innovation and creativity, and entails a rigorous selection of international films. The festival is going to be held from 2nd until 10th December 2016

General Eligibility:

To be eligible for the 16th Marrakech International Film Festival, films must fulfil the following conditions:

  • A feature film of at least 75 minutes.
  • Films must have been produced during the eighteen months preceding the Festival.
  • The Festival does not select short films, nor documentary films.

6. Call for entries: The 47th Edition of International Film Festival of Indial

The 47th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI- 2016), to be held from November 20th to November 28th in Goa, has opened its call for entries. One of the main features of this festival is the International Competition Section for feature films by directors from all over the world.

IFFI is open to Fiction and Animation films and to Short Documentaries and Feature Films.

General Eligibility:

The deadline for entries is on August 31st, 2016.

7. Call for submissions: International Mobile Film Festival, MFF2017

A platform for mobile film story tellers from everywhere in the world is in San Diego giving a voice to the individual through the technology available to almost anyone anywhere in the world: Mobile cell and Smartphones.

The festival opens the door to the world of filmmaking through the creativity of the technology in mobile phones.

MFF2017 will take place in San Diego on April 29 & April 30, 2017

General Eligibility:

  • PARTICIPANTS – There are no limits to artists/entrants/participants because of their age, income level, disabilities, race or ethnicity, sex or anything! Any human being qualifies as a filmmaker if you enter a qualifying film!. Entries are FREE.
     
  • EQUIPMENT – cell phones and video cameras only! All other production equipment, lights, cranes, dollies, etc. are allowed. Since mobile filmmaking has become an industry, you can find customized equipment online in stores.
     
  • ONE (1) ENTRY per person and/or entity. An organisation should contact: entries@mobilfilmfestival.com
     
  • LENGTH – Short Film Competition - 00:60 seconds (1 minute) to 05:00 minutes including credits. Feature Mobile Film Competition - 20 minutes to 60 minutes total including credits.
     
  • FORMAT – (.mov) files are preferred. But the festival would work with what your cell phone video provides by default (Please record FULL QUALITY video in widescreen format – adjust settings if you need to).
     
  • APPS – Automatic editing apps are not allowed. The only apps you may use are video editing software such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Splice, etc. on your phone or computer.
     
  • COPYRIGHTS: No third-party music, images & photos or graphics in your video.

The deadline for short film submissions is on December 19th, 2016 and the deadline for feature film submissions is November 19th, 2016.
