1. Job Vacancy at The Royal Film Commission – Jordan: Part-time Jordan Film Fund Assistant

The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) is seeking to fill the position for a part-time Jordan Film Fund Assistant. This position is at the Jordan Film Fund (JFF), at the RFC, and the incumbent will report to the JFF’s Manager.

Job Summary:

Assisting the JFF’s Manager, throughout the preparations and implementation of JFF’s cycles within and outside of the RFC.

Providing assistance to the Manager on consultations’ projects within RFC, or any other assigned tasks; this includes, and is not limited to, specific research, coordinating meetings, events and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assisting in maintaining an updated version of JFF’s written documents, material, application forms and process (in both languages).
- Responsible for filing documents, electronic and in paper, for future reference for JFF and follow up with applications and projects.
- Assisting the JFF’s Manager in all logistical tasks, and according to the requirements and activities on hand.
- Assisting in coordinating JFF’s outreach, marketing events, media publications, as needed and requested by the direct manager.
- Assisting in responding to emails and answering inquiries, coordinating meetings, taking minutes of meetings as needed and when requested by the direct manager.
- Working with JFF’s Manager on RFC’s consultations’ projects when instructed.
- Responsible for JFF’s databases; this includes preparing the databases, collecting data, reviewing, as well as verifying information, data entry, updating information, contacting concerned parties for data collection, and any other related task.
- Assisting in following up with applicants and ensuring that all submitted applications have the required documents.
- Assisting in following up with JFF’s grantees to provide the support needed and arranging for set visits, in addition to other administrative related tasks as required.
- Responsible for following up with the Finance department on all issues related to settling invoices, issuing necessary purchase requests, verifying invoices, etc.
- Writing reports as instructed by JFF’s Manager.
- Implementing any other task as required by the direct manager.

Requirements:

• 1 - 2 years of experience in business administration or a related cultural field.
• B.A. degree in Business Administration or equivalent.
• Well organized and details oriented.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Excellent language skills in both spoken and written English and Arabic.
• Logistics coordination experience is a plus.

2. Call for applications: The 16th Jordanian Short Film Competition of the “Franco-Arab Rendez-Vous”

The service of Cooperation and Cultural Activities of the French Embassy in Jordan and the Institut Français in Jordan, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission-Jordan (RFC), are organizing the 16th Jordanian Short Film Competition part of the “Franco-Arab Rendez-Vous” Section at the Amman International Film Festival - Awal Film (AIFF).

The two winning films selected by the Jury will be screened at the “Franco-Arab Rendez-Vous” section which will be held as part of the AIFF’s third edition in Amman (20-27 July 2022).

We are calling for Jordanian short films (documentary and fiction) to compete.

The deadline is on Thursday 30th of June 2022.

Submission criteria:

• The competition is open to filmmakers residing in Jordan or abroad. Either the director or the producer should be Jordanian.
• The film must be at least partly shot in Jordan.
• The film should not exceed 20 minutes.
• The film has to have been produced in 2021 or 2022.
• Each director can submit one film only.
• Only short narratives and documentaries can be submitted. Animated films or experimental films will not be accepted.
• The film must be subtitled in English or French, if it is in Arabic; or subtitled in Arabic, if it is in English or French.
• The director or producer should provide 2 DVD or Blu-ray copies of the film (which will not be returned).

The director or producer should provide the following:

1. Download the form in Arabic or in English.
• The application form should be typed (not in handwriting).
• A printed hard copy of the application form along with the film copies must also be submitted, in addition to sending the application form by email to marian.nakho@film.jo and to assistcult@ifjordan.com
• The application form should cover technical details regarding the film, synopsis (40 – 100 words) and the filmmaker’s information.
2. A soft copy of the film poster or still photo should be sent to :marian.nakho@film.jo and to assistcult@ifjordan.com

Note: A committee will select among the submitted films those entitled to compete.

Prizes:

• There will be two prizes based on the selection of the jury and two prizes based on the audience vote for the documentary and fiction categories. The audience will have the possibility to vote through the French Institute’s social media platforms.
• The four winning films will receive a trophy created by the Jordanian sculptor Hazem Al Zubi.
• The two winning directors for the best narrative and best documentary selected by the jury will be invited by the French edition of the Franco-Arab Film Festival in France to present their films (on the condition of providing the necessary authorizations for the trip). The full stay will be covered (accommodation and plane ticket).
• In addition, the RFC will offer a one-year free membership at the Film Library to the four winners.
• The two films awarded by the Jury will be screened at the “Franco-Arab Rendez-Vous” Section of the Amman International Film Festival -Awal Film.

3. Call for submissions: Karama Human Rights Film Festival 2022 - Jordan Karama Human

Karama Human Rights Film Festival - organized by Ma3mal 612 Think Factory - announces the launch of its activities for the year 2022. The 13th Edition will be from 3 to 13 December 2022.

The theme of this Edition comes under the title "Human Rights and Transformations", with the aim of examining human rights’ priorities and changes in the world, in the post-pandemic era - the economic and political transformations, deviations and mutations.

The Festival is currently accepting entries for films of the following genres: short fiction, feature fiction, documentary, animation; films should be produced after January 2019.

A selection of films will compete in the Karama Feather Awards for Best Fiction Feature, Best Feature Documentary, Best Short Fiction Film, Best Animated Film, and the Audience Award, as well as the “Arab Network for Human Rights Film Festivals, for Best Human Rights Film- ANHAR Award.

4. Call for submissions: The 5th Edition of Atlas Workshops – Marrakech International Film Festival

For its 5th edition that will take place from November 14th to 17th 2022, the Atlas Workshops is launching a call for projects in development and films in production or post-production by filmmakers from Morocco, the African continent and the Arab world.

The Atlas Workshops were initiated in 2018 by the Marrakech International Film Festival. The professional program operates as a talent showcase through which the Festival works side by side with a new generation of Moroccan, Arab and African filmmakers, and create a space for exchange between international professionals and regional talents.

The Atlas Workshops are aimed at directors and producers who are developing and producing their first, second or third feature-length film, at the decisive stages of either development or post-production.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Filmmakers must reside in or be a member of the diaspora of the Arab world or the African continent.
• Have a project in development or a film in production and post-production that is a first, second or third feature-length narrative, documentary, or animated films (minimum length 60 minutes), and have previously made at least one short or feature-length films.
• Have a production company attached to the project at the time of the application.

5. Call for submissions: The 9th Cairo Film Connection as part of Cairo International Film Festival

The 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF), that will be held from 13 - 22 November, opens now submissions for the 9th Cairo Film Connection (CFC); the Festival’s co-production market.

CFC will be taking place this year, bringing together international producers, financiers, distributors, and representatives from funding bodies, sales agents and TV channels to initiate international co-productions and partnerships with films from the Arab world.
It is a space for Arab filmmakers to initiate connections and receive the support they need to bring their films to completion. In addition, a jury comprised of prominent film professionals will select projects to receive cash and in-kind awards.

To be eligible for submission to the Cairo Film Connection, projects must be:

• Directed by filmmakers of Arab nationality or origin.
• A work of feature-length fiction or non-fiction in development or post-production phase.
• The director of the project must have previously directed a minimum of one film, whether it’s short or feature-length.

6. Call for submissions: Sundance Film Festival 2023

Attention, filmmakers! Submit your narrative feature film, documentary, short, episodic series, or New Frontier work to be considered for the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

The Festival will be held from January 19 until 29, 2023, in person in Park City and Salt Lake City, as well as online.
