1. Call for submissions: Cannes Film Awards

Cannes Film Awards is an international film festival with live screening that celebrates film, filmmakers, producers, photographers, and the arts. The film festival wants to bring new names to the film industry, support new beginning creators and direct them in the right direction towards the art of film.

Cannes Film Awards - Best Project wins:

1. The main prize "Cannes Film Awards Trophy"
2. Promotion of your project on social networks
3. 2-year partnership with the film festival
4. You can make money - you will lead a workshop for other filmmakers
5. The best project of the season will receive a cash prize of USD 1,500.

Rules & Terms

1. All films that are not in English, must have English language subtitles.
2. Multiple entries from the same submitter are accepted.
3. The decision of the festival selection committee will be final.
4. The excerpts from films send for Cannes Film Awards can be shown on social networks.
5. Films that are submitted must be the entrant’s original work and shall not infringe on any copyrights or any other rights of any third Parties. Contestants agree that they have obtained all required copyright permissions regarding music, sound & images. etc. presented in their film.
6. Cannes Film Awards organizers reserve rights change, cancel or re-schedule the dates, venue, awards & categories without consent or information to contestants.
7. The organizers reserve the right not to award any or all of the prizes.

2. Call for submissions: Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF)

Established in 1952, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is one of the world’s oldest film festivals and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest. The festival has a large, dedicated, and growing audience with a well-established public profile as a major event on the Australian calendar. MIFF has an Academy®, BAFTA and AACTA accredited short film competition. The winners of the top prizes in the competition become eligible for Oscar® consideration.

Eligibility requirements

• Films must have been completed after 1 January 2021.
• Films must not have been (or will not be) broadcast on television or publicly screened, distributed, or exhibited in a physical location within the state of Victoria, Australia, prior to 22 August 2022. The only exceptions to this requirement are for private screenings held for cast, crew or investors, and film-school graduation screenings.
• Screenings as part of a digital or online festival are permitted if the festival is for a limited run and geoblocked such that access by Australian viewers is prohibited.
• Films must be in their original language; if the original language is not English, subtitles in English must be provided.

3. Call for submissions: The Lebanese Film Festival in Canada (LFFCanada)

The Lebanese Film Festival in Canada (LFFCanada) accepts Lebanese, Arab and International films. As defined by its categories, the festival also dedicates entries for films directed or produced by Lebanese & Arab filmmakers from Canada and/or diaspora countries.

Awards & Prizes

LFFCanada, in all its chapters, offers one award as Audience Award for both feature and short films category

Rules and Regulations:

1-      Films produced within 2 years from the festival dates are eligible for submission.

2- Submission fees are non-refundable and non-reimbursable under any circumstances; LFFCanada does not reimburse any submission fees for films who are not selected for the festival program, or who withdrew their submissions at any time.

3- LFFCanada retains the right to accept or decline any film, for whatever reason, without any explanation.

4- Applicant admits that he/she is authorized to submit the film, being the rights-holder or authorized representative of the film.

5- LFFCanada receives exhibition copy in QuickTime 1080p HD 8 bit uncompressed or Apple ProRes file or equivalent via a downloadable link.

6- All films must have adequate English subtitles; French subtitles are also recommended if available.

7- Screening fees must be declared prior to or upon submission. If a screening fee is only indicated after the official selection has been announced, the festival retains the right to revoke the film's acceptance.

4. Call for submissions: Paris Short Film Festival

The Paris Short Film Festival is a European hotspot for showcasing innovative cinema and new trends in short filmmaking. PSFF 2022 looks forward to screening a broad range of genres by

help empower the next generation of artists.

The 8th PSFF will run 12 – 18 March 2022.

Rules & Terms

  1. The Paris Short Film Festival welcomes any film in any genre, under 45 minutes in length.
  2. Only digital submissions will be accepted: please upload films via FilmFreeway.

5. Call for submissions: Toronto Arab Film Festival

The Toronto Arab Film Festival is a non-for-profit festival dedicated to bringing films from, and about the Arab world, to Toronto audiences. TAF began because of a need to fill a void that exists in film programming in Toronto, specifically a lack of films from the Arab regions and a desire to reinstate a tradition of going out to watch films that has been lost.

The 3rd annual festival will take place May 26 - 29, 2022 in Toronto.

All submissions:

- must have been completed after January 1, 2020
- must be in English, or have English subtitles at the time of submission.
- accepted formats: shorts, features, documentaries, fiction, experimental

Short films will be automatically entered into two competitions:
- Audience choice award
- Jury Award for most promising filmmaker
- Best Canadian Film

Feature films will be automatically entered into competition:

6. Call for submissions: International Alexandria Short Film Festival

Alexandria short film festival (Egypt) was founded by Alexandria Art Circle Association to give a chance for filmmakers to present their work to the public and this in the heart of Alexandria to be a lighthouse of cinema in the world.

The festival is held annually, and its first edition was in 2015.

The festival aims to provide a suitable atmosphere to exchange experiences between filmmakers from all over the world and give opportunities for short filmmakers to present their films whether narrative, documentary, or animation in front of the audience, with the aim of conducting fruitful discussions between the filmmaker and the audience and providing a safe platform for presenting their work.

First: International Film Competition

  1. The film production date should be after January 1st, 2020.
  2. The film should not be premiered at any other screening platform in Egypt before its screening at the 8th edition of Alexandria Short Film Festival.
  3. Films that will be broadcasted or made available, completely, or partially, on any television channel, online, mobile phone, or other public display, will not be accepted before the closing of the eighth cycle, which will be February 2022.
  4. Films that were submitted to any previous editions of Alexandria Short Film Festival will be disqualified.
  5. The maximum duration of the eligible films is (30) minutes.
  6. The festival accepts submissions of films in the following sections: Feature - Documentary – Animation
  7. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted
  8. In case that the film language is in any language other than Arabic, a screening copy with English subtitles must be provided.
  9. In case that a film is submitted while it is still in the production phase, this should be mentioned clearly in the entry form along, with mentioning the final title of the film, and not the submitted rough-cut title, to avoid any confusion.

7. Call for submissions: International Mobile Film Festival

International Mobile Film Festival is one of the first, if not the first, international film festival exclusive to only films shot with mobile phones to screen on big screens in a live venue. IMFF is based in San Diego, California. Launched in 2009 officially as a live event film festival. In April 2022, the festival celebrates 11 years in session.

Rules & Terms

  1. All films must be shot with mobile phone cameras to qualify for all competitions in the film festival.
  2. Note: All films selected must be made available to be streamed online as well as during the live film festival event. The online event will screen a selection of films after the live event, dates to be determined.
  3. Direct email submissions are not accepted.
  4. Horizontal films only with high resolution. Must be formatted to play on large wide screens and look good.

    Not more than 10% of total footage may be aerial footage shot with drones (Max. 10% of total film). No other mobile devices qualify.
  5. Short Films must be exceptional quality films. If you are not experienced as a filmmaker, you can enter films that fall within the categories listed, into "The Rookie Award" category for new or non-experienced filmmakers.
  6. All Short Films must be between 1 & 5 minutes and Not One Second Shorter or Longer, including intro and end credits and/or video black at beginning or end.
  7. Feature Film Competition: all films must be high quality production narrative story-based films between 40- and 120-minutes total length. Only three films will be selected to screen in the festival and online.
  8. English embedded captions/subtitles for all foreign, non-English spoken, or hard to understand or hard to hear dialogue and narration/voiceovers in all films is required.

8. Call for submissions: Life After Oil International Film Festival

Life After Oil International Film Festival is an environmental & human rights film festival

This festival starts with the intention of overshooting the simple exposure. Although it is important to raise public awareness on the risks connected to the exploitation and to the use of natural resource in the production of fossil fuels, remains, the enormous and dramatic problem of the disasters caused by the lack of energy, with particular reference to the water supply, highly relevant to the world population. The main objective of the festival will be, therefore, not only emphasizing problems related to the use of fossil fuels, but especially identifying the alternatives which consider, according to the present scientific knowledge, the several well-known methods of production.

Life After Oil Film Festival will be held in Italy in September 2022. Deadline for sending films April 1st, 2022.

  1. Maximum length for short-film: 30 minutes including credits
  2. All works will be accepted in all languages with subtitles in English or Italian.
  3. No registration fee is required for all sections of the competition. Competitions include environmental theme films produced from 1st January 2020.
  4. Works accepted realized within cinema workshops organized by public and produced films such as dissertations. The deadline for submissions, is set to April 1, 2022. Films entered in past editions will be automatically excluded.
