1. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan: Media Officer

The incumbent will be the media contact person for production-related issues. He/She will act as liaison office between the RFC’s Production Services department and the Communication & Cultural Programming department with regard to foreign, regional and local cinematic and TV productions filming in Jordan.

The incumbent will report to the Communication & Cultural Programming Manager.

TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

-      Perform all promotional activities linked to film productions that include but are not limited to: interviews of cast & crew, media set visits, behind-the-scenes footage and stills.

-      Liaise with the media / press departments of various productions shooting or planning to shoot in Jordan. 

-      Track and follow-up on films shot in Jordan, after their completion or release, for promotional purposes.

-      Research on film projects and prepare briefs.

-      Compile all documentation material for the RFC from the different departments, in order to create a comprehensive archival database. 

-      Perform any other task as required by the Communication Manager, such as taking part in the organisation of regular screenings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

-      A BA in media, journalism or marketing.

-      Minimum two years’ experience in a similar position.

-      Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in Arabic and in English.

-      Film culture is a must. Knowledge in film production is a strong asset.

-      Capacity to work autonomously.

-      Excellent team player.

-      Excellent organizational skills and attention to details.

-      Flexible to work outside working hours and on weekends.

-      Flexible to work in various governorates around the Kingdom and outside Amman.

2. Call for applications: Anthology Film: Women in the Maghreb-Mashreq Region

The Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) in cooperation with The United Nations, Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and with the support of the European Union, is launching a new project “Anthology Film: Women in the Maghreb-Mashreq Region”.

In the framework of the UNESCO’S regional project "Enhancing a gender responsive film sector in the Maghreb-Mashreq region”, “Anthology Film: Women in the Maghreb-Mashreq Region” aims at building the capacity of filmmakers to encourage them to integrate a gender-sensitive approach into the filmmaking process. This will be achieved through the production of a feature-length narrative film, under the theme of gender equality and women’s empowerment in the Arab region. Five stories from five Arab countries (Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia) will be told in the form of an anthology film.

The project is seeking stories dealing with gender equality, domestic violence, physical abuse and discrimination against women, equal access to education, health care, decent working conditions as well as representation in the political and economic decision-making processes.

Five stories, one from each of the countries mentioned above, will be selected to be produced as a short film (15 to 20 minutes long), funded by the RFC and supervised by an internationally acclaimed team from the Arab world guiding the production from script development to exhibition.

The five short films will be edited and cut into one feature- length anthology film to be distributed internationally, targeting international, regional and local festivals.

Applications must be submitted no later than 12:00 AM (Jordan time) on 3rd of March 2019.

3. Call for submissions: Malmö Arab Film Festival 2019

The Malmö Arab Film Festival 2019 is now accepting film submissions. The festival will take place from the 4th until the 8th of October 2019.

Terms and conditions:

- The festival takes place in October and the films will be mainly shown in Malmo but also in other cities in the region in parallel with the festival days (maximum 4 showings).
- Films that may participate in the festival are selected by the festival’s judging committee.
- Applicants for participation in the festival have no guarantee that the film will be shown during the festival.
- There is no fee for applying. No compensation will be paid by the festival to showcase the film.
- Notification of approved films sent to participants two months before the festival’s start date.
- Films that are selected to participate in the festival may not be withdrawn.
- Submitted films should be produced in 2018-2019.

- Submitted films will not be accepted if they have been screened in Sweden before.
- Malmo Arab Film Festival has the right to manage the use of film clips and photographs from submitted films selected for the festival for all its image or print ads in all pages on the Internet utmost to promote the festival.


NOTE: Private individuals, companies, copyright owners, film producers, and film production companies have the opportunity to participate in the Festival if they meet all requirements.

4. Call for documentary films: PriMed - International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary Film and Reportage

The 23rd edition of the PriMed - International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary Film and Reportage is open to all directors, producers and distributors who, through their programmes or films, contribute to a better understanding of the countries of the Mediterranean basin in its widest sense, from the Atlantic coasts to the Black Sea.

The audiovisual works presented should be about the culture, heritage, history, societies and life of the men and women living in Mediterranean countries. They must not contain any form of advertising or propaganda. Each work can only be entered for one category, and the choice must be clearly indicated in the application form. Registration for the PriMed is free.

The competition has three phases:
- January 2019 : call for films - Deadline for registering and sending films: 31st March 2019.
- May / June 2019 : an international Selection Committee chooses the films which will be shown in the finals.
- November / December 2019, finals of PriMed : the International Jury watches the films and decides the winners; meetings of Mediterranean Young People Jury; public screenings and meetings; awards ceremony.

The presented works: - must have been produced after January 1st, 2018; - must not have already been submitted to a previous edition of PriMed; - in the case of a documentary series or a film with more than one episode, only one episode can be submitted; - in the case of a co-production, the programme may only be entered into the competition by one of the producers, with prior agreement from the other partners. 5. Call for submissions: The 44th Toronto International Film Festival

Submissions to the 44th annual Toronto International Film Festival are now open.
The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15, 2019.

TIFF Categories: 

Canadian Features:

Feature films with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer, directed by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and produced or co-produced in Canada.

Note: TIFF prefers that all feature films presented are, at minimum, North American premieres. The festival accepts submissions that have already premiered in North America, but the film’s premiere status will be taken into consideration when final programming decisions are made.

Canadian Documentary Features:
Documentary films with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer, directed by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and produced or co-produced in Canada.

Canadian Shorts:
Canadian short films with runtimes of 49 minutes or less, directed by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and produced or co-produced in Canada.

International Features:

Non-Canadian films with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer. 

International Documentary Features:
Non-Canadian documentary films with runtimes of 50 minutes or longer. 

International Shorts: Non-Canadian films with runtimes of 49 minutes or less.

6. Call for submissions: The 66th Sydney Film Festival 2019

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the 66th Sydney Film Festival. Feature films, documentaries and short films can now be submitted for consideration for the next edition of the Festival, which will take place from 5th to 16th of June 2019.

Categories of the Sydney Film Festival

The festival is composed of the following main categories:

- The Official Section (non-competitive) reserved for narrative films and documentaries (non-fiction) of any length, which are innovative, informative, challenging and/or entertaining in style or content.
- The Official Competition established to reward new directions in film.
- A Retrospective Section (non-competitive) paying tribute to a filmmaker, film movement or genre and designed to make a contribution to film history.
- The Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films (competitive) for recent Australian productions under 40 minutes in length, incorporating the Live Action Short Award, Rouben Mamoulian Award for Best Director, Yoram Gross Animation Award and Event Cinemas Australian Short Screenplay Award.
- The Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Australian Documentary (competitive) for recent Australian documentaries of any length.

Conditions of Entry

Films must have been completed since 1 January 2018. The date of completion shall mean the date of the delivery or availability of a locked-off print, tape or final digital format.

Feature-length productions (over 40 minutes in length, fiction and non-fiction) must not have been shown publicly in the submitted version in New South Wales (including Sydney) prior to their SFF presentation. 

Films under 40 minutes in length (fiction and non-fiction) produced outside Australia must not have been shown publicly in the submitted version in New South Wales (including Sydney) prior to their SFF presentation.

Films under 40 minutes in length (fiction and non-fiction) produced in Australia must not have been shown publicly, in the submitted version, in the Sydney metropolitan area prior to their SFF presentation. Such films may have screened publicly elsewhere in Australia.

All works selected for the SFF will be presented in English or in their original language with English subtitles on DCP.

Works that are solely promotional, educational or scientific in nature are not eligible for selection for the SFF.

7. Call for applications: Sharjah Film Platform - Short Film Production Grant

Sharjah Art Foundation invites filmmakers from around the world to apply for the Short Film Production Grant, part of the annual Sharjah Film Platform.

Applicants responding to the open call should submit a grant application and a three-minute video that presents an overview of the genre, themes, structure, plot, setting and characters for their original short film. A total of 30,000 USD will be awarded to the selected filmmaker/s, and all films must be completed in time to screen at the 2020 edition of Sharjah Film Platform.

Sharjah Film Platform, Sharjah Art Foundation’s annual film festival, features film screenings as well as a programme of talks and workshops led by filmmakers and film industry professionals.

8. Call for entries: 6th edition of OLHARES DO MEDITERRÂNEO – CINEMA NO FEMININO

The “Olhares do Mediterrâneo – Cinema no Feminino” festival is a project of the group
‘Olhares do Mediterrâneo’ and ‘CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology’.

The Festival intends to promote the exhibition of films made by women from the
Mediterranean basin, stimulating the knowledge of this cinematography and to publicize the women's role in the industry, their work to the public and promoting interchange with Portuguese film professionals.

The Festival is calling for submissions of films directed, co-directed, produced, edited or written by women of the Mediterranean basin.

The 6th edition of the Festival will be held from October 30 to November 3, 2019, at ‘Cinema São Jorge’, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Festival accepts submission of films, of any genre and length (except institutional,
corporate or advertising films), which meet the following criteria:
 

Mandatory terms and conditions:
- Having at least one woman responsible for one of the main credits: direction, production, argument, direction of photography or edition;
- Produced or co-produced by, at least, one of the Mediterranean countries (Albania, Algeria, Bosnia, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, Slovenia, Spain, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Montenegro, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) or Portugal;
- Produced after January 2017;
- Not previously released in Portugal by commercial distribution (sales or rent), theatrical
exhibition or broadcasting on television;

10. Call for submissions: The 4th Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival

This year's motto for the 4th Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival is "Roots and Inheritance of Culture". The 2019 edition will take place from 25th until 28th of September 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Entry Rules

1. Film genre: Documentary

2. Theme: Roots and Inheritance of Culture

3. Film length definition:

Documentary Long: more than 60 minutes;

Documentary Medium-Length: 26-60 minutes (including 60 minutes);

Documentary Short: 7-26 minutes (including 26 minutes);

Documentary Mini: 7 minutes or less;

4. Completion time of film production: after January 1st, 2017.

5. Registration fee: 20USD

6. Subtitles: All registered films must come with English subtitles.

7. Application notes: The registered film must be a completely finished documentary film. All films that register for the Golden Tree International Documentary Festival shall not contain any elements that are hostile to other countries, cause religious or ethnic conflicts etc, and shall not cover pornography, violence and racial discrimination.
