1. Job Opportunity at the Royal Film Commission - Jordan:
Regional Training Manager

Position Description

Plan, budget, develop, evaluate, implement and manage RFC’s regional training programs: RAWI Screenwriter’s Lab, Med Film Factory, Bosch Project Market, and the Med Film Anthology Program; aiming at empowering and developing the skills of Jordanian and Arab filmmakers.

Rawi Screenwriters’ Lab

Rawi Screenwriter’s Lab targets independent Arab screenwriters (Fellows) and offer them the chance to develop their work in a uniquely creative environment under the guidance of internationally acclaimed screenwriters from all over the world (Creative Advisors). Each year, fellows and advisors work intensively for five days on their feature narrative screenplays. Each fellow will have several one-on-one story sessions with the lab's creative advisors.

Med Film Factory

Med Film Factory is a training program aimed at semi-professional Arab film directors and producers, offering them the opportunity to advance their creative and professional skills and supporting them in the realization of their projects. It also aims at creating collective connections within the Arab regional film industry, in particular to encourage regional support, involvement and financing of independent creative voices and films through all the stages of filmmaking.

Project Market Amman - Film Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung

The Royal Film Commission – Jordan started in 2012 a partnership with the German foundation the Robert Bosch Stiftung with the aim of supporting collaboration between young filmmakers from Jordan and the Arab world on one hand, and those from Germany on the other. The Robert Bosch Stiftung issues three annual Film Prizes for international cooperation between young German and Arab filmmakers to realize a joint film project. The prizes are awarded in the following categories: short animation, documentary and short fiction film.

Anthology Program
The Anthology program aims to create a region-wide anthology feature film, which consists of short film entries from five Middle Eastern and North African countries. Partners will be identified in each country to nominate three director/producer teams to submit their proposed entry projects. The program will assign two mentors to support the filmmakers’ ideas and concepts while they’re developing their stories.

Reporting to: Managing Director


Responsibilities

• Manage RAWI Screenwriters’s Lab program, Med Film Factory, Anthology Program and Bosch Project Market.
• Develop a detailed action plan for each program.
• Work and manage the logistics of the programs and workshops.
• Responsible for the outreach and callouts on a local, regional and international levels, including websites, magazines and events.
• Develop a media plan relevant to the workshops and programs in cooperation with the Communication and Culture Department.
• Receive and assess applications for workshops and programs.
• Assign reading committees for workshops and programs.
• Shortlist participants for the programs and workshops.
• Reach out to advisors/experts/trainers and follow-up on their participation.
• Connect with the advisors to read and assess relevant projects.
• Supervise arrangements for travel and accommodation of advisors/experts/trainers and participants.
• Any other tasks that maybe assigned by Managing Director


Requirments

• A BA in Art, Filmmaking, Management or any relevant field.
• Experience in proposal writing, planning and budgeting.
• Excellent communication and writing skills in Arabic and English. French or German is a plus.
• Exceptional presentation skills.
• Experience in filmmaking and knowledge of film production and film culture.
• Experience in planning and implementing training programs.
• Capacity to work autonomously.
• Attention to details and team work spirit
• Good connections with the filmmaking community in the region and the rest of the world.

2. Job Vacancy: Cinema Project Manager at Lumiére à Zaatari

Lumiére à Zaatari is a private non-profit organization dedicated to provide cinema movies screenings to the residents of Zaatari Camp, mainly focusing on the children.
 

Lumiére à Zaatari is looking for a Cinema Project Manager for its office/ project:

Workplace : Zaatari camp with frequent move to Amman

Type of contract : Renewable one-year contract contract, with 2 month trial period.

Start date : December 2018

Main purpose of the position:

Responsible of the program, communication and management of a cinema in the refugee camp of Zaatari. In short collaboration with the project's partner UNICEF, he or she should ensure the daily running of the cinema. Representative of the organization in Jordan, he or she will have to work in good relation with local authorities and all related partners.

Main responsibilities
- Being accountable and supervising the execution of the project
- Responsible of the movie program monthly planning for the cinema
- Ensuring that the ethical standards are followed and objectives are achieved
- Coordinating activities with other partners
- Monitoring and analyzing activities
- Being accountable for the proper planning, sizing, and coordination of all financial and material resources needed in the program
- Project accounting management
- Supervising technical maintenance of the cinema building
- Reporting : Evaluating program performance and providing all the required reports to head quarter referents on project planning, project monitoring and project evaluation.
- Hierarchical and functional responsible of the project assistant

Requirements

Education / experience : University Diploma in program management ideally in audiovisual media and /or experience of project management inside refugee camps and /or cinema management.

Language:
Fluent in Arabic, as well as English and if possible French.

Knowledge: Solid general knowledge, both cultural and cinematographic.

Competencies: Management, organization, communication skills.

3. Call for submissions: The 4th Beirut Cinema Platform

Beirut DC and Fondation Liban Cinema are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 4th Edition of Beirut Cinema Platform (BCP).
BCP is a co-production platform for Arab independent filmmakers and producers working on feature-length documentary or narrative film projects, in development or in post-production. This platform aims at providing the project holders with the opportunity to meet with Arab and foreign professionals in order to encourage partnerships and co-productions.

Each year, around 15 film projects get selected to be part of the in-competition section.

The 4thedition will take place in Beirut, between 29 and 31 March 2019.

Beirut DC and Fondation Liban Cinema are pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the 4th Edition of Beirut Cinema Platform (BCP).
BCP is a co-production platform for Arab independent filmmakers and producers working on feature-length documentary or narrative film projects, in development or in post-production. Who can submit?

- The director and producer (if available) have to be from the Arab countries*
- Applications are open for projects attached to a foreign co-producer as long as the main producer is from the Arab countries
- Only feature-length film projects are accepted (narrative, documentary or docu-fiction films)
- The projects submitted should be in development or a work in progress
- For projects in development, the film should be the director’s first or second feature-length
- For the works in progress, an Arab producer should be attached to the project
- Filmmakers should have previous works (short or feature films, documentaries or narratives)
- Applicants are preferred to be able to communicate in English since some of the professional meetings will be with foreign experts.

*Arab countries: Jordan, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

The official selection will be announced by mid-January 2019 and will be published on Beirut DC’s website as well as Facebook page. All applicants will receive an acceptance or rejection email once the final list of projects is selected.

4. Call for submissions: The 26th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS)

The 26th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is now accepting film submissions! The festival will run from April 30th until May 5th 2019.

Submit your film for the International Competition, Young Animation, Tricks for Kids and AniMovie competitions of ITFS 2019.

- International Competition (International short film competition)
- Young Animation (International student film competition)
- Tricks for Kids (International competition for short films and series)
- AniMovie (International feature-length film competition)

For participation in the International Competition, the student film competition Young Animation and the children’s film competition Tricks for Kids are admitted productions up to a running length of 35 minutes.

For participation in the student film competition Young Animation are admitted films produced by students or graduates of film schools, art colleges or other training institutions for animated film.

Animated short films and series (one episode per series only) for children can be submitted to the children’s film competition Tricks for Kids. It is a submission requirement for series that a submitted episode has a story or partial story of a narratively self-contained nature.

For participation in the feature-length film competition AniMovie are admitted productions from a running length of 60 minutes up. The films must not have been released commercially in Germany prior to the Festival.

5. Call for submissions: The Arab Animation Forum as part of the 26th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS)

Pitching competition for animated film projects from the Arab world – in cooperation
with the Robert Bosch Stiftung. The winning project will be nominated for the Film
Prize of the Robert Bosch Stiftung for International Cooperation.

The call for entries to the competition will be announced separately in December.

The submission deadline on February 15th, 2019.

6. Call for submissions: FEST - New Directors New Films Festival

The 15th edition of FEST - New Directors New Films Festival will be held in Espinho from June 24th to July 1st 2019.

FEST is looking for fiction and documentary feature films and fiction, documentary, animation and experimental short films

A few things are different from previous editions:

1. Short film submissions now has a 35 years old age limit (instead of 30)
2. FEST has simplified the submission process,
3.There is an Early Bird period to submit your film, that extends until October 17th.

FEST is accepting films under the following formats:

A) Fiction and non-fiction feature films (minimum length is 55 minutes) from directors who are on their first or second feature-length project, regardless of age.

B) Fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental short films (up to 54 minutes of duration) from directors up to the age of 35 (including) at the end of the production.

The final deadline for submissions is on February 25th 2019, at midnight (GMT).

7. Call for submissions: The 17th Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum

Established in 2000, and supported by government agencies Create Hong Kong and the Film Development Fund, the Hong Kong - Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), a film project market in Asia, brings Asian filmmakers with upcoming film projects to Hong Kong for co-production ventures with top film financiers, producers, bankers, distributors and buyers.


HAF Project Entry
Around 25 to 30 film projects are selected annually to participate in HAF. Representatives of the selected projects will be invited to Hong Kong to attend the three-day film financing forum. Selected HAF projects will be eligible to compete for a number of awards, subject to the criteria and regulations of each award.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
The applicant MUST be the copyright owner of the submitted material, or is authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner of the submitted material.

- Full-length (running time 60 minutes or longer) feature film or documentary project with a director, producer and a production company attached
- With a proposed budget and not fully financed
- Display a high market potential for Asian and/or international market
- Exhibit both artistic and commercial qualities
- At any stage of production
- Priority will be given to projects that have not been participated in any other project markets

- A completed Project Submission Form (online or by post)
- One-sentence synopsis (30 words in English; 60 words in Chinese)
- Synopsis (200 words in English; 300 words in Chinese)
- Director's Statement (200 words in English; 300 words in Chinese)
- Director's Biography and Filmography (100 words in English; 200 words in Chinese)
- Producer's Biography and Filmography (100 words in English; 200 words in Chinese)
