1. Call for submissions: The 70th Cannes International Film FestivalThe 70th Cannes International Film Festival is now receiving film submissions. 

To submit a film, you need to:
  1. Comply with the pre-selection conditions.
  2. Fill out the online Entry Form.
  3. Download your film online (for short films)
  4. Send your film (for feature films) to the address indicated at the bottom of the Entry Form.
  5. If your film is selected, you must comply with the Rules and Regulations.

Films can be selected for the Official Selection: Competition (features and shorts), Out-of-Competition or Un Certain Regard. However, the Selection Committee decides which section a film can participate in.

Feature Films in Competition, Out of Competition, Un Certain Regard:

The Selection Committee of the Festival de Cannes is exclusively in charge of the following sections of the Official Selection: Competition, Out of Competition and Un Certain Regard. The Selection Committee decides which category a film can participate in.

The non-official categories Director's Fortnight and Semaine de la Critique are independent of the Cannes Film Festival. They handle their own respective selections.

CONDITIONS

Only feature films that meet the following conditions may be submitted for consideration by the Official Selection:

  • Films that have been produced during the twelve months preceding the Festival.
  • Films whose distribution is limited to their country of origin.
  • Films that have not been presented at any international motion picture event. If the film (feature or short) has been selected for an international section (competitive or not) of a festival, it becomes ineligible for the Festival de Cannes. A selection is international if it presents films from different countries.
  • Films that have not been shown on the Internet or released on DVD.
  • Every feature film invited to be in competition must be released theatrically in France in accordance with French legislation pertaining to media chronology rules. Any beneficiary, producer or authorized representative submitting a feature film commits to honoring this clause.

FILM DURATION

  • In order to be selected as a feature film, your film must be more than 60 minutes long.
  • The Festival de Cannes does not accept films with a duration of between 15 and 60 minutes.
  • Films with a duration of under 15 minutes can be presented to the Selection of short films.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION AND FOR RECEPTION

  • The registration deadline is March 5th, 2018. (By this date, the registration form below must have been filled out and validated).
  • One of the accepted formats submitted for selection must be received by the Festival no later than March 12th, 2018.

Short Films in Competition

This year, short films must be directly uploaded during the registration process. 
No short film sent in other formats (DVD, BluRay, Mini DV, Beta, or other) will be viewed.
There is no fee for the short film submission and your film must only be uploaded once.

CONDITIONS

Only films that meet the following conditions may be submitted for consideration by the Official Selection:

FILM DURATION

  • In order to be selected in the Short Films competition, your film must be under 15 minutes long (including credits).
  • The Festival de Cannes does not accept films with a duration of between 15 and 60 minutes.
  • Short films (between 1 and 35 minutes) can be registered for the Short Film Corner: a meeting place dedicated to short films within the Festival de Cannes.

You can also contact the Director's Fortnight or the Semaine de la Critique, which are parallel sections of the Festival de Cannes.

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION

  • The registration deadline is 1st March 2018. By this date, the entry form must have been filled out and the film uploaded.

CINEFONDATION Selection

ELIGIBILITY

Unless a special dispensation is granted, a film must comply with the following conditions in order to be submitted:

  • have been directed by a student within his/her film school curriculum;
  • have been made during the 18 months preceding the Festival;
  • have not been presented at major international festivals. However a film can have been shown at a festival in its country of origin;
    not exceed 60 minutes in running-time.

Note!

  • Films made at Junior secondary school or High school level are not accepted for selection in this section of the Festival, only films produced in the context of a Film school or Film studies department of a University are eligible.
  • Documentaries are not accepted.
  • It is possible to send a working copy of the film. When filling in the entry form, please state if it is the final version or a working version. Submission of a working copy does not allow for later submission of a final copy unless requested by the Cinéfondation;
  • Films from film schools have to be registered with the Cinéfondation Selection and cannot be registered for the Short Film Competition.
  • Short films (from 1 to 35 min) can also be registered in the Short Film Corner: a meeting place dedicated to short films within the Festival de Cannes.

15 February 2018 at the latest (by this date, the entry form must have been filled in and the film uploaded or the DVD received, not post-marked).

PLEASE NOTE:

THE CAMERA D'OR: The Caméra d'Or is not a specific category; it is an award. However, all selected first feature films compete for the Caméra d'Or, awarded to the best first film presented in the Official Selection (Competition, Out of Competition, Un Certain Regard), in the Director's Fortnight or in the Semaine de la Critique.

THE SHORT FILM CORNER: The Short Film Corner is exclusively reserved for shorts. You can submit films to the Short Film Corner for a fee online on the Cannes Short Film site: http://www.cannescourtmetrage.com/fr/

2. Call for submissions: The 20th Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and ShortsThe 20th edition of Ismailia International Film Festival for documentaries and short films will be held from the 4th until the 11th of April 2018.

Registration for participation is open until the 20th of January 2018.

Films can be submitted to the festival's following categories:

3. Call for submissions: Doha Film Institute Spring 2018 Grants CycleDoha Film Institute continues its commitment to nurturing emerging filmmakers from around the world through its Grants Programme. Alongside its support to first and second-time filmmakers, funding is also available from the Institute to established filmmakers from the MENA Region.

Applications for funding through the upcoming Grants Cycle will be accepted as of 10 January.

For International Applicants:

Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
Development, production and post-production funding is available for first- and second-time directors from the MENA region for feature-length projects. Short films are eligible for production funding only. Established MENA directors may apply for post-production funding for feature-length projects.

Non-MENA
Post-production funding is available for feature-length projects by first- and second-time non-MENA directors.

The next cycle opens 10 January 2018 and closes at midnight (GMT+3) on 22 January 2018.

Applications sent by email will not be considered. Please submit via the online form, accessible only while submissions are open.

4. Call for submissions: Berlinale l World Cinema Fund 2016Together with the Federal Foundation for Culture and in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, the Foreign Ministry and German producers, the World Cinema Fund works to develop and support cinema in regions with a weak film infrastructure, while fostering cultural diversity in German cinemas. The World Cinema Fund supports films that could not be made without additional funding: films that stand out with an unconventional aesthetic approach, that tell powerful stories and transmit an authentic image of their cultural roots.

The World Cinema Fund supports exclusively the production and distribution of feature films and feature-length documentaries. The support is focused on the following regions and countries: Latin America, Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, the Caucasus as well as Bangladesh, Nepal, Mongolia and Sri Lanka.

Types of funding and necessary documents

PRODUCTION FUNDING

Funding Amounts

  • Maximum funding: 80,000 euro per project.
  • The funding amount cannot exceed 50% of the total production costs.
  • The total production costs of the supported projects should lie between 200,000 euro and 1,400,000 euro.
  • The funding must be spent on the production of the film in the aforementioned regions.

Required documents

  1. Completed Online-application form:
    After submitting the online application form you will receive information regarding the following steps.
  2. Send all the listed documents by E-Mail to worldcinemafund@berlinale.de:
    1. Full script in English or French in case of submitting a long feature film / advanced treatment in case of submitting a documentary film project (PDF format). (If the submitted project is a film in Spanish original version, please send a copy in Spanish PDF).
    2. Financing information:
      • Detailed budget in Euro and in local currency (if available).
      • Financing plan (please indicate the sources, which parts are confirmed, applied for, separation of the items by country and if/when answers are expected as well as the percentage of the share by country).
    3. Contracts and agreements
      All financing agreements and/or letters of intent from financing partners, which are already confirmed.
      Signed existing co-production / co-operation agreement(s) or deal memos.
      Clearance of all rights: The rights clearance is a document or a contract which transfers the rights from the scriptwriter to the producer and officially entitles the producer to use the script for a film project. It is not necessary to attach it if the writer and the producer are the same person.
    4. A visual dossier with mood pictures, casting, locations, etc.
  3. In addition to the online submission, printed copies of the materials are needed by email or courier:
    • One copy of the printed web form with original signatures
    • One copy of the complete submission materials as described above in 2 (items a, b, c and d)
    • One copy of the director’s previous film(s) with English or French subtitles on DVD.

DISTRIBUTION FUNDING

German distributors can apply for distribution funding not exceeding 10,000 euros for the distribution of film from the WCF regions in Germany. The subsidy cannot exceed 50% of the total distribution costs.

5. Call for submissions: The 36th Fajr International Film FestivalSet in Tehran, Fajr International Film Festival pays tribute to quality local and international films. It is an event that celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and showcases films promoting artistic contribution to the medium. The festival focuses especially on films from the Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasus and Anatolia as well as works heralding peace and friendship.

Fajr International Film Festival provides a platform in this geographic region for interchange of professional experience and international meetings. Intensive training courses are offered to young filmmakers. At the same time, the International Film Market, better known as IFM, provides an opportunity for the acquisition and sales of film rights, coproduction projects and offers support for the production and screening of new Iranian films.

The 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival will be held from April 19th until 27th, under the direction of well-known Iranian filmmaker, Mr. Reza Mirkarimi.

Eligibility and Formats

  • The world premiere films are of high priority.
  • Accepted formats: Non-encrypted DCP, Apple ProRes 4444 or Full HD File (plus a blu-ray backup) with English subtitles.
  • Date of completion: 2017-18
  • Date of Completion for special screening films, midnight screenings, and documentaries: 2016-18

Eligible films for Main Sections:
 

  • Feature films (fiction, documentary, animation) of at least 70 minutes running time, intended for theatrical release.
  • Short films (fiction, documentary, animation) of at most 15 minutes running time.
    All films have to be registered at online film entry in the festival website (www.fajriff.com).
  • The submission form must be completed by the producer or international distributor of the film.
  • In case of any international screening, Iranian films will not be included in the main sections of the festival.
  • International films, already premiered in the Middle East, Central Asia, Caucasia and Anatolia (with the exception of the country of origin), will not be selected for the main competitive section.
  • In case of submission in previous editions, the film is not eligible to be submitted again.

6. Call for entries: Tetouan Film Festival 2018Every year since 1985, the Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival has drawn filmmakers, stars, producers and audiences from around the world for one week of film screenings, creative dialogue and coveted awards.

This year, the 24th edition of the Tetouan Film Festival will take place from March 24th until March 31st, 2018. Selected entries will include over 100 feature length and short films as well as documentaries produced by some of today’s most creative talents.

Filmmakers and producers are encouraged to submit entries that have been produced in 2017 and 2018 and whose subject and treatment reflect the art, culture and spirit of the Mediterranean region.

Submission deadline for the 2018 festival is January 31, 2018.

7. Call for submissions: DOCVILLE - International Documentary Film Festival BelgiumDOCVILLE, the largest documentary film festival in Belgium, has a strong focus on author-driven documentary with special emphasis on the cinematic experience in general and cinematography in particular.

The festival that will be held between March 21st until 29th 2018 is still accepting film submissions. For 8 days, the festival organizes master classes, seminars, master talks next to its screenings.

GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS - APPLICABLE FOR ALL COMPETITIONS

  • Deadline for entry is January 1st, 2018.
  • Only FEATURE LENGTH docs are accepted (50 minutes or more)
  • Submitted films should be marked as downloadable (film will be stored in the (secured) festival archives).
  • Submitting your film means accepting we include the film’s preview file and information in the festival video archive.
  • Submitted films can't be withdrawn from competitive sections.

SPECIFIC RULES & REGULATIONS FOR THE BELGIAN COMPETITION

  • All general rules & regulations apply
  • Films should be finished after the previous deadline of Docville (January1st, 2017)
  • Films -although preferred- are not required to have premiere status at the time of the festival

  • All general rules & regulations apply
  • Documentaries sent in for the international competition need to be (at least) Belgian premieres (can't be shown on tv, internet, festivals, cinemas or other public venues in Belgium).
  • Submitted films should have been completed after January 1st 2017.

AUDIENCE AWARD

If your film does not comply with one or more of the rules stated above, you can still submit your film. However, it will not be eligible for a jury award. If screened in one of the non-competitive sections, it will be eligible for the audience award.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR SHORT FILMS

  • There is VERY limited place in the current programme for short films.
  • Short films OVER 15 minutes are strongly discouraged.
  • Short films can NOT compete in any of the competitive sections.

8. Call for submissions: Berlin Fashion Film Festival 2018Berlin Fashion Film Festival is an annual two-day conference in Berlin that brings together more than 500 filmmakers and opinion leaders from the film, advertising and lifestyle businesses. It provides a platform on which the latest trends and talents in the field of moving image, marketing, conceptual storytelling and brand communication can be discovered.

BFFF celebrates the best work in fashion film, music video, experimental filmmaking and content for beauty, cosmetic and lifestyle brands. The high-profile festival jury will select this year’s best national and international submissions, which will be presented and awarded in an exciting award show at the peak of the festival.

You can then enter your submission into one or more of the award categories until February 28th, 2018.
