The Royal Film Commission –
Jordan Opens a Film Center in Karak
in Cooperation with Creativity Club – Al Karak
Amman, 11
April 2022
The Royal
Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) and Creativity Club – Al Karak signed
today a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to
establish a Film Center in the city of Karak as well as a mobile
cine bus. The MoU was signed by the RFC’s Managing Director,
Mohannad Al Bakri, and the CEO of Creativity Club – Al Karak, Husam
Tarawneh, at the Commission’s premises in Amman.
The
inauguration of the center in Karak comes within a series of similar
Film Centers managed by the RFC in seven governorates around the
Kingdom (Irbid, Mafraq, Salt, Zarqa, Aqaba, Petra and Wadi Rum), and
it is planned to establish this center inside the headquarters of
Creativity Club – Al Karak.
The project
aims to provide an educational and entertainment space for youth in
the city through the Film Center, where training workshops in the
fields of film and television will be organized as well as free of
charge screenings allowing them to watch quality international and
Arab movies. The project also includes a mobile cine bus equipped
with modern audio-visual equipment and devices in order to create a
different educational environment that meets the requirements of
today’s film and TV industry.
On this
occasion, Al Bakri stressed that the RFC, since its establishment,
pays a special attention to the governorates, and said: “We are glad
that the RFC now has an official body in Karak so that we can
intensify our cinematic activities in the city, and we are grateful
for Creativity Club – Al Karak for their cooperation to make this
possible.”
He added:
“The RFC carefully oversees the plans and programs of its Film
Centers in the different governorates. The Centers organize, all
year round, workshops, panels and seminars that tackle skills and
knowledge needed in the arts of filmmaking, in addition to film
screenings and competitions targeting different age groups of both
genders. We believe in the importance of such opportunities that
promote filmmaking in local communities as a viable growing
industry, a career and a tool for self-expression and storytelling.
We look forward to the ideas and creativity which the local
community in Karak will present using cinematic language.”
In a related
context, Tarawneh commented on this cooperation and said: “The
Creativity Club is honored and pleased to sign this agreement with
the RFC; we consider it a step forward and an expansion of our
programs in the field of arts that will enhance the aesthetic taste
of the Club’s members, encourage critical thinking and improve the
skills and capabilities of the youth interested in the fields of
photography, montage and directing. We are confident that this
agreement will have a tangible impact on the youth of Karak, given
the need and necessity for education in the filmmaking sector.”
It is worth
mentioning that the RFC has organized a total of 350 workshops
attended by some 5350 participants; and 370 seminars with around
5000 attendees in the seven Film Centers around the Kingdom.
