Kedi

Ceyda Torun, 79 minutes, Documentary, In Turkish with Arabic or English subtitles, Turkey, 2016

Hundreds of thousands of stray cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul freely. For thousands of years, cats have wandered in and out of people’s lives, becoming an essential part of the communities that make the city so rich. Claiming no owners, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tamed and they bring joy and purpose to those who choose to adopt them. In Istanbul, cats are like mirrors for the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in different ways.

The film’s World Premiere was at Istanbul Independent Film Festival 2016. It was screened in 35 film festivals and has won several awards including: Best Documentary at The Chlotrudis Society for Independent Films, Best Documentary at Atlanta Film Critics Circle, Best Documentary Film at North Carolina Film Critics Association, Jury Award at Sidewalk Film Festival and Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary Award and Best First Documentary Award at Critics' Choice Documentary Awards.
