Damian McCann, 95 min, Thriller/Mystery, in Irish with English subtitles, 2021

RATED 16+

Tomás, a busy Irish-language TV producer, is a private man, who likes to keep things quiet and ordered. He takes his wife and their beloved baby son to their secluded holiday home, on a north coast island. He receives an urgent call from work, he is needed back on the mainland and he has to go himself and leave his family on the island.

Later that day, Tomás returns to the island to find that his wife, their baby, and all trace of them gone. An investigation by the island's only police officer, the elderly Labhaoise, exposes that not all is as it seems. With a storm forecast for that night, they search the island only to discover something: his wife's abandoned car and a body on the beach. The body of a man.

It is two years since Róise lost the love of her life, her husband Frank. She is now isolated in grief, cut off from family and community. The dog loves sport and steaks, has a favourite armchair and an aversion to their neighbour, Donncha. Róise quickly realizes that this dog is her beloved Frank, reincarnated. While her son worries that his mother has lost her mind, the local community seem to embrace the idea of Frank’s return, especially as he coaches a shy local kid to become a star player and ensure success for the school team. Róise is happy once more but is there a real future for her with a dog-husband?
